Is it legit or a scam? It is from "Yingling V. Ebay Inc. Settlement Fund". It says it has something to do with final value fees from 05-09. Unfortunately I won't be rich as the check is only for $3.76.

Cash it or no?

I received a notice that a check is ready to be sent to me. It is for $1,234,789.03.

But first, I need to wire them $5,000 to have the check released.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 7:52:17 AM EDT
Mine was for $1.36.

I'll try not to spend it all in one place.

Funny thing is, I don't recall either buying or selling on ebay motors in the time frame covered by that suit.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 7:59:58 AM EDT
$3.58 here
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:04:04 AM EDT
$11.49 here.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:04:39 AM EDT
Mine was for $1.09. I'm not sure if I even want to fool with it just in case it's a scam................
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:05:03 AM EDT
was this only if you sold on ebay motors or all of ebay?
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:05:44 AM EDT

Yeah, because God forbid that your bank take $3.76 out of your account later! Your mortgage check might bounce! Far better to make a trip and burn gas to go somewhere else, because there's no way they'll be worried about the validity of the check!
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:14:32 AM EDT
$3.14. WOOT!!11!!
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:18:40 AM EDT
Mine was for $2.17. I figured, hey it's better than $0 dollars so I stuck it in the savings account.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:23:13 AM EDT
$1.06

What do I win?

Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:26:05 AM EDT

I get a crazy fee when I deposit a check that is no good. I wouldn't even bother with a check for such a tiny amount.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:29:55 AM EDT
Endorse "without recourse." Send through ATM deposit. Win.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 8:34:28 AM EDT
I sold a $9K motorcycle in late 2006 and believe I got a letter as well. I'm not holding my breath for any check much less one that is more than $5

Did anybody actually know about the class action and enroll? If it's an auto enroll, I'm likely due a couple bucks myself.

I knew nothing about it and hadn't used ebay for a while. If you used the motors section then you should get one.

Are you all getting them in the mail today or over the last few weeks?
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 9:03:55 AM EDT
I looked it up, it's legit.

I got $10.14

The only scam is some asshole seen a hole in something people were willfully doing and went after it to make some bucks.

Legit. US District Court for Northern District of California Case No C-09-01733.
Still have the original notice from last spring.
$30 million payout.

These class action lawsuits are a joke. I once got a free rental as a result of a class action against Blockbuster. THe actual "victims" literally get a buck or two. IT is the lawyers who get millions based on thier "fees." Just another lawyer money making scam.
Link Posted: 11/25/2011 1:50:36 PM EDT
I WIN!!!!!!

18.37 for me!

The idea isn't to get money to the plaintiffs. The idea is to lump many too-small-to-sue plaintiffs together so that the settlement is substantial enough that the company may think twice before swindling large groups of people for small amounts again.

$9.47 here.

Bingo! And let's not forget that the lawyers likely spent a good chunk of time and money pursuing it.
Link Posted: 11/26/2011 11:11:35 AM EDT
Woohoo! $6.73.

Glad to know I helped make another lawyer rich. All class action and bankruptcy settlements do is make lawyers money. I'd have rather seen payments under $X go to a charity.

Don't forget to cash your check by December 22, 2011.
Link Posted: 11/26/2011 12:58:33 PM EDT
$2.04 for me.

Gonna frame my first settlement check. Hopefully the next one is worth a few bucks more

Remember this.

The only people that get paid in a class action suit are the lawyers. If you're not a lawyer, you're likely signing rights away for a check that won't even buy a value meal at McD's.
