Carry handle is attached to upper. Needs more quad rail and free float barrel.
ETA: What year was that article printed in? |

He needs $2000 in MagPul plastic stuff, flashlights, and optics on that rifle, or he might as well be carrying a sharp stick. Also, look at his clothes, they're waaaaay too "working man" and not Tier 1 at all.

You mean you could buy them that way? You didn't have to hunt around for all the correct pieces and slowly put one together?

Face it fellas,
OP is right. Y'all go play with your little carbines now. |

About nine eighty six. Really? Wow, I didn't think Colt was making ARs in the Dark Ages. |

I like the fact that the AR-15A2 in the picture is mostly composed of A1 parts....
Does have the A2 plastic though. |

I almost snagged a former Missouri DOC trade in that looked just like that a few years ago. I kick myself for not doing it. Nice simple rifle. |

Besides the furniture, the delta ring and barrel is upgraded and I imagine the sight post and flash hider are A2 style as well... In some other ads from the 80's, Colt refers to the A1 sights as "rugged field sights" and A2 sights as "target sights". You can see the ads here. |

Yah I guess if I didn't know any better. You're obviously not a TIER ONE RUGGED INDIVIDUAL. Currently, more like tier four or five. But I'm guessing if I bought a Colt AR15A2, I would immediately grow a plaid flannel shirt and become tier one. Within mere days of owning my Colt AR15A2 I could lecture "newbs" on the nuances of what an awesome responsibility it is to be tier one and how only "professionals" can be trained on such powerful weapons. I imagine in time- I might even look down upon others who own "copies" of my rifle but whom can't afford the real thing. |

You may even be able to copy and market a sling design in use by many and refer to yourself as a three letter personage... and make millions doing it, which in turn leads you to eat more McPorkproducts, which will make your tactical belly grow to tier 1 size... Then and only then may you refer to users of the other site as "spongebob watching printer repairmen". |

I remember that ad, in fact, I think that was one of my first motivators for my first AR purchase, bought it in 1988.

|
I tend to agree.
I'm about to turn my A2 into an A4, with a carry handle, simple because it looks cool. I think rifle length AR's with irons, are pretty much one of the best devised weapons ever. The newer ACR and SCAR style weapons are giving them a run for their money, but for simplicity's sake, you can't beat an A2. |

My Kassnar- it's accurate enough but I'd rather have one of my 74's for that distance. Still waiting on Ironwood to send my damn stock set so I can take my latest Bulgarian import out for a test drive. |

No way can that rifle work. It doesn't have a piston and some butthole playing dress up in the ad.
|
|
The rifle in the ad looks like a Colt R6500, It was sort of a transitional model for them. It had A2 furniture, but A1 rear sights and a slab sided receiver w/o the mag release guard rail. They were sold in the late 1980's (1985-1988?). They came with a two piece pivot pin, which also happened to be in the "big hole" configuration. The barrel was 5.56 NATO with 1/7 twist.
I bought mine in 1986 and I still have it (along with a DD big hole flat top upper yet to be installed)............. unless the right offer comes along. |
