Former member FUGGIT and I went hunting this evening. We caught a group of ferals out in the open. We were hunting just a few miles from Terrell, Texas, and spotted these hogs in a large pack (30-35 headcount) in the middle of a pasture. We took advantage of the terrain, and made a good stalk to get within 75yds. My M16 is the lower one, 9mm, 5.5", triple X suppressor, using some 95 grain ammo given to me by tomac to test on hogs. FUGGIT's M16 is running a 10mm upper and I let him put his gun next to mine so that he could feel special too. My first burst knocked one hog down. My second tripped a second hog. Bursts 3-5 were misses. The two hogs pictured were each hit with multiple rounds and were laying side-by-side when we walked up. One was spine hit with two visible entrance wounds. The larger one took three rounds (one lung, two hindquarter). We checked for other hogs, bloodtrails, and did not recover any more from this group. Before we left, we stopped to smoke a couple of cigars and spotted a lone hog in the middle of a 50 acre field. I took my M16, with a PVS-22 on it (was now dusk) and crossed the field to get close enough to shoot. I missed the first, second, and third burst, then I realized I was not leading the hog. By now, the hog was at a dead run, I lead him by six feet and got one round in to him. SNICKPOOMPSQUEAL! At this point, I knew I must be low on ammo, and with the hog still running away (but slowing) I popped the magazine and saw one round in the mag (two total). I lead the hog, who was now almost walking, and fired two rounds. Clean misses. The hog continued across the field and made his way in to the far treeline. Five hogs hit, two recovered. And a happy landowner that wants us to come back again to kill some more. TRG |

Nice looking bangsticks!
I didn't think a 9mm had enough punch to kill a hog at that distance. I've wanted to use my 9mm for hogs, but always take my 5.56 just to make sure. Are you confident in its knock down power if you were charged by them?? |

This gives me a cheap (well, relatively speaking) and quiet platform that does not bother neighbors and has proven to be a hog killing round. When I do recover a hog, I don't find fragments of lead and brass in 12"-16" wound channels TRG |

He had slid back down three-five times. Goatboy said to us (because we were in tears laughing at the struggle), "Oh come on guys, at least let him have his pride..." From the page you linked - any legal weapon (which the full auto falls under if you have the paperwork) is legal for nongame animals. Nongame Animals (Non-Protected): Any lawful firearm, pellet gun, or other air gun is legal. ETA - if you are hunting for food or trophy, you need a hunting license, but if the hogs are depredating, then you can kill them with impunity (e.g. no license required). And since feral hogs are either 1)heading to depredate, 2)coming back from depredating, or 3) actively depredating, it's pretty much open season ![]() Quoted from Texas Parks and Wildlife code |

Recovered two rounds from the hog.
These were bullets sent to me by Tomac and I tossed the box a while back. As I recall, they are 95gr.
One round entered her left shoulder. It broke a rib and sprayed bone in to her left lung. it continued straight through her spine. Shattered the spine. It continued through the spine but stopped prior to entering her right 'armpit'. it did not enter/damage her right shoulder. the second round (slightly taller center post exposed) was a shot fired from 10' to finish her off. It entered just under her left ear (she was laying on her right). It traveled about 8". It shattered her spine, skull and was lodged on the inside of her left jaw (had to remove her tongue to dig it out). There were two rounds that hit her in the hindquarter. One was a surface wound, the other shattered her right hind knee. Because of the distance between the impacts of the rounds (hind vs spine) this means she was hit in previous burst. She would not have traveled with a busted spine. So, she took the hip shot, stumbled from the broken knee. Recovered, and then was hit in the spine at the fence where she fell. There are more pics, but graphic at my photobucket. They are in reverse chronology (h1 is the last pic, h17 is the initial pic). You can get an idea about the wound channel, path and damage of the 9mm on the hog. http://s671.photobucket.com/albums/vv71/TheRedGoat/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ20 TRG |

The meat is tougher than a commercial hog, and can be tough to chew. I prefer to grind it in to sausage. Bacon (belly meat) is almost non-existent. TRG |

I use a commercial 147 TCMC (truncated cone) that is the bee's knees for hogs. It is also subsonic, and that REALLY screws with the hogs. 115gr, ball, sucks. 147gr HP does not expand. Ever. These 95gr rounds expanded to .61-.68 Penetration was about 6-8", but both broke through the spine. 147 would have penetrated at least another 4-6" and broken her right side shoulder as well. TRG |

I keep expecting one to get pissed off and charge. So far, no takers. I would use 115gr only, but they are not subsonic, and every pig runs away. I like to have juuuust enough to kill 'em, but not enough to make it unfair. 147s apparently break through spines better. Unless a pig is hit in the CNS it almost always runs away. the 9mm entry hole just doesn't leak blood, so they are hard to trail. I know they die from 115s, I just don't have the carcass to prove it.
