step by step and part by part you are making progress.

So nice to follow this.

I truly hope and wish you all the fun you can have building your dream home  and that once it will be complete you can sit back an relax and talk about the old days hopefully with plenty of friends around

That's pretty awesome OP. I've always wanted to buy land and build a BOL there.

Here's what mine would look like.

At the end of 4 days, the bank should be still above 50 percent depth of discharge, which is important for extending battery life.

I will probably add 2 more panels, but will first see what the 2 do. They are Trina 180 watt panels at 24 Volts. for a total of 15 amps of power. The turbine is 500 watts max and 24 volts. Turbine can put out anywhere from 1-20 amps.

The inverter / charger will allow a generator ( I have a Honda 2000) to be plugged in, and it with then bypass the inverter, and power the house. Any power not needed at the house will then charge the battery bank. Its my understanding that this generator will charge these 4 batteries in about 4 hours, or 1/3 of a gallon of gas.

The solar charge controller is one of the best out there. Do a google search for MPPT charge controller.

I applaude your choices except maybe the panels. I'll have to presume the shipping charges to AK are what is really hosing you on those.

Those batts weren't cheap either I'll bet but they never are.

Remember that windmill needs to be 30ft higher than the tallest object within 500ft. for max effect.

Edit:

And for the record, I'm full of envy and hate.

Bah. Huge day. Equipment company called this am about 3 hours early when I was hung over, and my car was still at the bar 3 miles away to say they were ready to deliver the stuff. After much jumping through my ass and ride finding, got it delivered.

Went and got breakfast and showered.

Then, started cutting trees and moving shit.

The new driveway

Trees cut and some shit moved

I have no business driving bulldozers.... Just saying...

End of the day.... No people or expensive rental equipment broke, and lots done!

How does your head stay warm in the winter?

Last winter in North Dakota (5 miles south of Canada) I grew a full beard and let my high and tight go for months
to add some extra warmth working on the oil rigs.

BTW Great piece of land you have there.

Wait. .  .so you just call up the equipment rental company, they drop off the dozer and front loader, and they let you operate it?

For real?  Don't need no special permit or license?

Sorry, I'm from Westchester, . . .you need a permit to put on a jacket. .  .

Excellent thread!  My sole Alaskan experience is flying in and out of Anchorage as a refueling stop for points west.  Some awesome scenery on the climb out to the north.

My question - there seems to be alot of pine and very little hardwood.  Do folks up there burn pine in woodstoves?  Or is there hardwood that I am not seeing?

Keep the updates coming.  You are living our dream.

(I'll have a pic of my wood pile in my team thread later this week)

Most of us up here burn spruce, paper birch, and alder.  There isnt really any *true* hardwood in alaska.  That said, dry sappy spruce burns like crazy.  I've got a few rounds that are massive that I have to split once it freezes for a few nights.  (makes it easier to split)  They came out of the rosey creek area in fairbanks and are easily 36" diameter and 28" long.  Was a HUGE tree.  Going to burn real nice though

But I heat on firewood alone for the winter.  (hoping to get a new furnace next year)

It's not hard if you have the right equipment.  If you fly me up I'll be happy to help.

If my wife ever leaves me I'm moving to AK.  I love everything about it except the mosquitos and they're not that bad everywhere.
