He evidently turned his life around. What would it serve to incarcerate an old man?
How could anyone consider justice to have been served if they didn't incarcerate him? Prison isn't about turning a criminal's life around. It's about punishing the criminal for the crimes he commited. This man fled and delayed his punishment and there's no way that he should be rewarded for being a fugitive for so long.
Actually prison is about both punishment and turning a person's life around. Since it was a violent felony and involved a death he should serve the rest of his sentence. If there had not been a death or serious bodily injury to someone I would have said let him go.
Turning a person's life around is a nice touch and many prisons(but certainly not all of them) have all sorts of programs to attempt to do so, but the concept of prison is that as punishment for your crimes you are sentenced to lose a prescribed number of years of your freedom.
