What's with the kid pissing in the background? I doubt that's a real pic of anything more then some capfire that they tossed some crap in and called it a crash site. The rope thru the receiver looks like it's attached as a handle to carry it, if you follow the rope it looks liike it also attaches to the pistol grip area somewhere.

Lots of trauma to break the threads off the upper, break the stock tube off the lower, and crack the trigger guard.

Broken weapon looks big because it takes a BADASS MOTHERFUCKER to tote one in those mountains.
RIP
As for the gun part looking big...its just the optical illusion of shooting a wide angle lens with the foreground close to the lens...just like the silly dog pictures. 7mm |

One of the stories coming out from the beginning was that the helo was shot down from quite an altitude as the bodies were not recognizable and were quite intertwined with the wreckage. To me, it sounded like it wasn't shot down by a lucky RPG round-at least that's what was implied by the report (FNC, Jennifer Griffith) last weekend. To put this in context, I know an armorer at Gowen Field who is in the ID ANG. When he was a young Marine in South Korea in the '80s, he was given the task of "cleaning" the body parts off of M16A2s and M249 SAWs that had burned flesh fused with the weapons after the aircraft carrying the Marines crashed-some of you may remember that. He has pictures of the weapons after he "cleaned" them. They are intact for the most part, but rusty from heat and the plastic gone. I don't remember if the aircraft was a '46 or '53, but many died, and those that survived were badly injured. ETA: Something about this incident doesn't add up at all. |

Not as far as I know, but I've never touched a real 416 that I can remember. I really don't know what it says, and that's why I left the question mark there. I googled images of HK416s, and all I was able to find in terms of a close up shot was airsoft replicas. Granted, some of them are damn accurate copies, but it's still just airsoft and there's no way to know if the markings are duplicated exactly or not without seeing the real thing. |

The more I look, the worse this gets:
The bolt is missing from the upper receiver. There's no way to remove the bolt without taking the carrier, too, unless the pin sheared, which is highly doubtful. So if the bolt came off with the barrel, the carrier would have had to have been pulled through the front of the upper, which would have left a giant mangled hole in the front of the upper. If the bolt didn't go with the barrel, there's no reason it wouldn't have stayed in the receiver, because it wouldn't have went out the back. This photo has to be fake. The chances of a rifle being subjected to the sorts of stress that would shear the receiver off at the threads, AND break the stock off, AND melt the finish off in places, then it landing out in the open away from other wreckage is virtually nonexistent. |
