As many of you know,

I'm an Italian gun owner
and enthusiast and I’m a member and activist of our gun rights
association, called FISAT.
We have a Commission in Italy that decides
which guns are legal and which are not.
The Commission is mainly
composed by antiguns from the government, but manufacturers too have
their representatives.
Recently, this Commission decided to introduce a
regulation that will stop imports of black rifles to Italy,
basically
because they look evil. That means ANYTHING that resembles, descends from, is similar in function or derives from a military firearm.

It’s not a ban, at least not formally (rifles
already imported are still legal), but this regulation introduces so
many restrictions

that no importer will be able to meet all criteria
needed to import a black rifle in the Italian market.
This could sound
to you like your ordinary assault weapon ban story, but the disturbing
part is that
the representatives of the Italian manufacturers voted IN
FAVOR of this proposition.
Considering that Italian manufacturers don’t make or import black
rifles, they probably believed they could take some economic advantage
from a black rifle ban, with the added plus at the same time of
brownnosing the powerful antigun bureaucrats sitting in the Commission.
This is a betrayal: the manufacturers are selling Italian gun owners’
rights to the government antiguns, in exchange of a potential increase
in their market share, and maybe of more government orders in the
future.
Many gun owners are disgusted by this and wrote protest letters
to the manufacturers, who replied indignantly that they would never
approve of any restriction of gun rights, and so on.
Too bad we have the original document of the Commission that shows the
contrary!
It is posted here (.pdf document, in Italian).

Please remember: every time you buy an Italian firearm in the US,
the manufacturer of that gun is an accomplice in trampling gun rights
in its home country.

Here it is: the INFAMOUS E-MAIL from Denis Fontana:

He's the owner and chief operations of a small firearms factory:

http://www.lionellosabatti.com/8/art_of_denis_fontana_alzavola_whit_victorial_design_at_carpet_2598746.html

"fine craftmanship" firearms, you know, the ones that made Italian workmanship famous.

TOO BAD HE'S A TOTAL DOUCHEBAG:

I’M ABSOLUTELY HAPPY AND I CONGRATULATE WITH MY PRESIDENT, MR.
PEDERSOLI, FOR NOT ALLOWING MILITARY-LOOKING RIFLES TO BE INCLUDED IN
THE CATALOGUE [of legal firearms] ANYMORE. I THINK IT’S DISGUSTING AND
I WANT TO EXPRESS MY INDIGNATION IN LEARNING THAT THERE'S PEOPLE WHO
LIKE TO PLAY WITH MILITARY OR MILITARY-LOOKING RIFLES. I ALSO BELIEVE
THIS DOES SERIOUS HARM TO OUR [i.e., manufacturers’] IMAGE AND
BUSINESS, SINCE PEOPLE OFTEN ASSOCIATE MY FIREARMS, FINE SPORTING GUNS,
WITH THOSE SHITTY, BLOOD-STAINED MILITARY FIREARMS.

MILITARY,
MILITARY-LOOKING AND EX-ORDNANCE [Curio & Relics,for you guys]
FIREARMS SOMEHOW RECALL AND CELEBRATE PAST AND PRESENT WARS, AND WAR IS
NOT A GAME. IF YOU ARE SO FOND OF MILITARY GUNS, WHY DON’T YOU SPEND A
COUPLE OF MONTHS IN AFGHANISTAN? THEN YOU’LL SEE, YOU’LL LEARN WHAT
YOUR BELOVED GUNS ARE MADE FOR, BUT MAYBE YOU’LL ALSO HAVE SOME FUN.
THEN, WHEN YOU COME BACK, WE CAN TALK AGAIN.

HERE IS MY ADVICE: YOU'RE BETTER OF LEARNING PLAY CHESS [or insert any gayish non-sport instead ]

OF COURSE THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION AND IT DOESN’T NECESSARILY REFLECT THAT OF MY ASSOCIATION.

Do you want the e-mail address of this.. well, gentleman?

If you will take the time to contact those people and notify them that their gunmakers back home are playing a dirty game,

and US customers will not support such a behavior - and possibly will refrain from being customers of anyone dealing with Italian brands.

Again, EVERY LITTLE BIT OF HELP IS DEEPLY APPRECIATED. YOU HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO

but rest assured it is extremely welcome!

Well, hasn't Italy learned something from Greece?

I'm not laughing at Greece or Italy or any other European nation that has demonstrations.  The Arab Spring has become the European Summer and is likely to turn into the American Fall (as in season of riots, not collapse).

-Beretta Owns Benelli. Benelli is producing the fail-rifle called MR1.

In the body of the new regulations rifles descending from military guns

cannot have STANAG ( or standard ) mags, no compatible FCGs, nothing swappable with a select-fire or otherwise military variant of the model.

Guess what the MR1 is?

All of it. No STANAG mags, no standard FCG.

Anyway it's not only Beretta, wich - months ago - used his power to modify the EXISTING export laws.

-Davide Pedersoli ( Black powder Pedersoli factory ) is the HEAD of the gunmakers representation at the Commission.

Davide Pedersoli VOTED YES on "banning" new imports of black rifles.

You have to understand that 1) we don't have any domestic manufacturers of military / black rifles.. except one.. Beretta

2) Italy is FUDD COUNTRY and most of the shooters are from a hunting environment. Everything that's not fuddish is alarming.

3) the Consorzio Armaioli - aside from Pedersoli and Pietta - are mostly fine crafted, Italian style FUDD GUNS manufacturers, expensive and sold most exclusively on the US market.

4) the Consorzio Armaioli is just as anti-gun as your Californian average fudd. If it's not fer huntin', it has no place in Italy.

Those Italian gun companies are now dead to me.

BTW; the Smith and Wesson that exists today is NOT the same British owned company that signed the sell out agreement with the Clinton Administration.

And Bill Ruger is dead and the company that still bears the Ruger name no longer adheres to his restrictive principles.

Boycotting those two companies is absurd, they are good companies that manufacture some excellent guns and they are staunch supporters of firearms rights.

Can you still get American lowers into the country? Or has this already gone through?

I've got $15 towards a Larue lower for an Italian that is getting his import rights taken away.
we aren't permitted to build our own guns.

You've got to be a licensed manufacturer to do this.

And go through proof-testing for every single firearm produced.

So no, we MAY get some complete rifles ( whenever your Secretary of State allows it )

and, after all the ITAR bullshit paperwork is done, you wait 6mo. to an year

to put your grubby hands on a Oly Arms Ar15 that costed you more than 2500USD.

The Benelli M2S90 and M4 were my first two choices for my new 3 gun shotgun...after reading this...they can suck it.

I'll be buying an FN SLP instead.

Well, the Smith and Wesson thing wasn't a sell out (in my opinion) as much as it was a cave in.

Bill Clinton said that if the gun makers started putting features on their guns that the antis wanted then they would be exempted from the anti-gun lawsuits that were threatening to bankrupt the whole industry. Smith and Wesson gave in and put the locks and mag safeties on their guns. I forgave them for that and I carry a S&W pistol to this day. I continued to support them and will continue to support them.

Bill Ruger is another matter all together. I do not, and never will own a Ruger thanks to him. I have bought Marlins, S&Ws and even Taurus handguns to spite Ruger.

Name some names.

And I won't buy a thing from any of those companies ever again.

This.  Name the traitors and they'll never see a dime of my money until they repent their evil and return the side of freedom and light.
Thanks for the quick and overwhelming responses guys. Yes, ParaFrame got it partially right.

-All the participants to the Consorzio Armaioli Bresciani - the main gunmakers lobby:
-Massimo Tanfoglio, of TANFOGLIO / EAA
-LUCA RIZZINI of RIZZINI SHOTGUNS
-Emanuele Sabatti of SABATTI
-Paolo Zoli
-Alberto Pietta of PIETTA
-Rino Chiappa of CHIAPPA FIREARMS

to name just the few most famous.

I'm trying to make a more comprehensive and detailed list.
We've already contacted NRA, but being such a big lobby, I don't know how much they'll listen to us.
If you're in contact with Italian gun manufacturers' reps, tell them the news have crossed the ocean that
THEY SOULD US OUT.

That's too bad. I really wanted a Chiappa RINO in .357 mag

I'm not sure of the exact meaning of that, but it sounds painful.

Considering all of their money comes from the US the only way they'll get Zumbo'd is if we Americans do it.

Wow.

I had an M4 on my want list. I guess I'll scratch that off.

You should let them know that they're pissing off American gun owners as well- a far larger market than Italy.

I don't (and won't) own NEW Rugers.

I buy them USED, so Ruger gets none of the profit.

Welp, no 10mm EAA witness now.

I'll just get another CZ, probably a Dan Wesson Razorback.
