Fuck yeah, BIY stuff right there
I love doing projects like that, no matter how simple it is. Building shit is therapeutic |

The nice thing is that I can take the beer off and open the top just as easily as the original. I even re-installed the retention strap that holds the top open.

That is fukkin' HAUT!!!

[the backstory here is that I needed a DIY project to take my mind off of my divorce] Yeah, I'm thinkin' the wife wouldn't warm up to that one in the living room. Women, they got no taste... P.S., any security? What's to keep perps/kids from opening that up & taking the guns out? Or is easy accessibility the plan, so you always have a blaster ready to repel boarders/zombies? |

excellent. ETA do you live in a cave? I wish I lived in a cave. The mortgage would probably be a little easier. The table is still sitting in my basement. The photo was made using a 30 second exposure and a flashlight. I wanted it to be a bit more artistic, but I couldn't get the beam focused tight enought for that. |

I fapped. i'm about too thats an awesome coffee table. |

That's so damn cool. I've always wanted to do that but have never run into anyone willing to sell me a crate.
|

Looks ok, but it's not pretty enough for the living room and it's too delicate (glass top) for the safe room,
|

I was going to say my wife wouldn't go for one of them but you covered that.

Very nice, though judging by the thread title I thought you bought a coffee table made of beef jerky.

Wasn't there someone here a few years ago that did this with a whole crate of 91/30's? Put 2 very low out put florescent lights in the bottom of the crate to give it a glow from the bottom?
Love your take on it OP. Nice job. |

10/10.
The only thing I could think to add would be some way to install some museum lighting, like maybe a couple small aquarium lights but of course that leads to the issue of wiring it. Incredibly awesome, best thing I've seen in a while. |

Fuck yeah, awesome.
Now stock the bottomn of it with one layer of spam cans of ammo, and find a place to burn "Break Glass in Case of Emergency" into the wood really small, just to give good friends a laugh... Nothing beats a last resort coffee table. |

My daughter is 12 and really only has an interest in the .22s. The .22s are locked up in the safe, along with the ammunition for my C&R firearms that are displayed in the office. Thieves? I guess they could make off with the firearms on display in the office, which is why I limit the value of the displayed stuff to less than the amount covered by my regular insurance policies. Stuff in excess of that stays in the safe. |

Thats effin' cool . Would look great in the man cave.
Quality pic from that d200 too |

1) Sorry about the divorce. 2) Awesome table! My one regret is not getting one of those or one of the Yugo SKS crates with 10 rifles. Didn't have the money back then. |

I've had the urge to build a new coffee table for my home office, and thought a Mosin Nagant coffee table would strike a nice balance between "get off my lawn" and "Antiques Roadshow". A vendor at a recent gunshow had a crate with 7 Mosins in it. After some back and forth, they agreed to sell me the crate if I bought 4 of the Mosins. I removed the original lid and replaced it with a newly made glass top set in a 2.5" pine frame, while relocating the original hinges. I decided to stain the pine with an olive woodstain, thinking it would wear better than paint. The lower part of the frame is 3/4" thick, and the upper part is 1/2" thick with a 1/4" rabbit to hold the glass top in place. I then used some 1-1/4" brass bolts to hold the upper and lower portions of the frame together. Pictured in the crate are the 4 91/30s that came with the crate. I also have a nice 91/30 Tula and a pair of M44s that could also go in the crate, but they're simply up on the wall right now. http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z362/0471861731/_DSC0698MosinCoffeeTable-A.jpg [the backstory here is that I needed a DIY project to take my mind off of my divorce] This is clearly WINNING!!!. |

Nothing beats a last resort coffee table. I work with a Russian national, and I sent him a Bablefish translation of "In Case of Zombies, Break Glass" into Cyrillic. He busted out laughing, so I'm pretty sure Bablefish got it right. I'm going to stencil it [backwards] onto the underside of the glass. |

Im not sure if I can still get them but I know a place here in southern ohio that throws thsmese cases away. I have one in my garage still and gave some others away. I guess I need to start selling some lol.
Table looks good need to figure out some paint to match the aweful green that the crates have on them. The top painted to match would be great. |
