I have a Troy Bilt 5500 with a Briggs. Had it for two years without any issues. Still fires right up on the first stroke, even with old gas.

You can't go wrong with a Briggs.

The Troy Bilt has a substantially larger engine (by 70 cubic centimeters).  Both are single cylinder units.

Leaning toward the Rigid from the online reviews.
