At work and noticed some strange vapor trails in the sky, looked closer and there's a plane flying over houston doing circles, it's moving farther and father east over time and out east is where all of the chemical plants are. Any other day I wouldn't care but not today. Who should I contact? I can't see it now since the sun has gone down but it's been over head for teh last house just flying in cirlces.

CONTRAILS occur above 24,000 ft where the air is below freezing no matter what.

If flown below that it's something being dumped out.

For what I flew in the suck, no. Never heard of it being SOP for any other platform as well.

Clouds occur at elevations below 24k and temperatures above freezing.











 

When they reach ground level, tell us what they smell like.  

Fighters do what we can to minimize contrails.  I've schwacked more than one Red-Air bandit who was not paying attention to his cons.  Without them, I wouldn't have known they were there.  

Jet A requires the Prist (anti-icing) additive before we can use it in our aircraft.  That makes it basically JP8 (or 4 - can't remember which).

Don't mistake vapor trails for chem trails.  Remember, breath in deeply, hold, hold, hold, exhale.  Repeat until unconsciousness sets in.  What do you want on your tombstone?

Contrails are not clouds.

I saw those contrails too.  Never seen a plane leaving a contrail do a u-turn.

HOUSTON—Many citizens were concerned Saturday after seeing a large plane circling the city, but officials said there is no cause for concern.

Officials at Ellington Field and Bush Intercontinental Airport confirmed it is a NASA test plane. Texas City Emergency Management said the plane is flying at 50,000 feet as a test maneuver.

Yes, it is the Guppy making flights around the Houston area. They have been doing training flights for over a week. These test flights have been planned for several months and appropriate flight plans filed. Aircraft with multiple turboprops (T-56 engines) are capable (and do) fly sustained 50k flights including the Guppy, P-3, and C-130. If anyone is still concerned or skeptical, simply Google Ellington Field Flight Schedule and check out Flight Aware dot com. All local EFD planned flights are kept up to date on that site. Rest assured, not all the engineers at NASA with brains have been let go. The force is strong.... SpaceMan74

Guppy serivce ceiling is only 32000 feet...therefore, doubt it was that transport aircraft used by NASA...gosh, don't believe you're going to see any turbo-props bouncing around 50,000 feet....only jets...settle down people.

I saw a huge plane last week flying at about 1,500 feet above Ellington Field that I couldn't identify. It was shaped like a large whale and I've never seen anything like it in my life. Wondering if this is the same one that was seen at 50,000 feet today.
