Actor Jack Palance  Few people know that veteran movie actor Jack Palance was a professional heavyweight boxer in the early 1940s. Fighting under the name Jack Brazzo, Palance a product of Lattimer Mines, Pennsylvania, won his first 15 fights, 12 by knockout before losing a 4th round decision to future heavyweight contender Joe Baksi on Dec. 17, 1940. With the outbreak of World War II, Jack Palance's boxing career ended and his military career began. Wounded in combat, he received the purple heart, good conduct medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he began his long and famous motion picture career.

Never said he didn't.  He is the one claiming he is a SEAL when he isn't.

There was a very convincing article recently that says he did not serve in Vietnam.  It's a thread from a few weeks/months back.

I saw that as well.

Interesting that they describe his service as during the "Vietnam Era."

You sure about that one?  Has there ever been a definitive answer?  There's lots of rumors surrounding it.

Yes I am positive.  Stationed at Ft. Hood, TX.  One of the local tattoo parlors had (at least they used to have) pics of him coming back to get more ink after he made it big.

Hm, interesting.

I have always understood him to be in 1st Cav, but he could have been in 2AD.  Wiki has him listed as a Tanker in 2/32, 3rd Armored Division as well.

Thats a myth
He was never in the army
Everyone believes that because he has the 32nd Armor regiment shield tattoo " Victory or Death"

I didn't notice James Garner listed yet.

Later, he joined the National Guard  serving seven months in the USA. He then went to Korea for 14 months in the United States Army, serving in the 24th Infantry Division  in the Korean War. He was wounded twice, first in the face and hand from shrapnel fire from a mortar round, and second in the buttocks from friendly fire from U.S. fighter jets as he dove headfirst into a foxhole on April 23, 1951. Garner was awarded the Purple Heart in Korea for the first injury. For the second wound, he received a second Purple Heart (eligibility requirement: "As the result of friendly fire while actively engaging the enemy"), although Garner received the medal in 1983, 32 years after his injury.[6][9][10][11]  Garner was a self-described "scrounger" for his company in Korea, a role he would later play in the The Great Escape[12]  and The Americanization of Emily.

Heres one i didnt know until i went searching for celebrity Marines.

Pat Robertson

In 1948, the draft was reinstated and Robertson was given the option of joining the Marine Corps or being drafted into the army. He opted for the first, which allowed him to finish college under the condition that he attend Officer Candidates School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia during the summer.[citation needed] He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Artsdegree and was the first person to be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant at a graduation ceremony at Washington and Lee.[citation needed] In January 1951, Robertson served four months in Japan, "doing rehabilitation training for Marines wounded in Korea".[citation needed]

In his words, "We did long, grueling marches to toughen the men, plus refresher training in firearms and bayonet combat." In the same year, he transferred to Korea, "I ended up at the headquarters command of the First Marine Division," says Robertson. "The Division was in combat in the hot and dusty, then bitterly cold portion of North Korea just above the 38th Parallel later identified as the 'Punchbowl' and 'Heartbreak Ridge.' For that service in the Korean War, the Marine Corps awarded me three battle stars for 'action against the enemy.'"

James Doohan ( Scotty of Star Trek fame) was a bonafide war hero. An enlisted man who rose to captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery, he was with the Royal Canadian Artillery on Juno Beach on D-Day. He was shot seven times, with an eighth bullet lodging in his metal cigarette case. Three bullets shredded the middle finger of his right hand. Eventually, the finger was amputated, which is occasionally noticeable in Star Trek episodes and movies.

Charles Durning was a 21-year-old Army Ranger on Omaha Beach, June 6th, 1944. Wounded, he was the only soldier in his outfit to survive the initial assault. He was wounded in Belgium, stabbed by a German teenager wielding a bayonet. He was taken prisoner during the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944, and survived the infamous machine-gun massacre of over 100 US POWs at Malmady. He returned to the site of the crime to help identify the bodies.
Finally, as the war wound down and he helped to liberate the Nazi death camps, Charles Durning took a bullet to the chest, effectively ending his tour of duty.
He was awarded three Purple Hearts and the Silver Star. And he spent the ensuing four years in and out of hospitals.
http://www.nndb.com/people/939/000022873/

Alec Guinness served in the Royal Navy throughout World War II, serving first as a seaman in 1941 and being commissioned the following year. While in the military Guinness for awhile planned on becoming an Anglican priest. He commanded a landing craft taking part in the invasion of Sicily and Elba and later ferried supplies to the Yugoslav partisans.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000027/

Lee Marvin,a private first class in the Marines received a Purple Heart for wounds received during the battle for Saipan in June 1944? He was wounded in his buttocks by fire which severed his sciatic nerve. His real name was Marvin Lee. When asked about the change he said that the Marine Corps did that and he got so used to answering to it, he kept it that way in civilian life. Marvin is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Eddie Albert was awarded the Bronze Star as a Naval Landing Officer. He heroically evacuated wounded Marines during the invasion of Tarawa, NOV 1943.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000734/

Charles Bronson was a tail gunner. He completed 25 missions and was awarded the Purple Heart.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Bronson

James Arness (Gunsmoke) As a private in the famed Third Infantry Division he earned a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Because of his stature, he was chosen to be first off the landing craft (to test the depth of the water) when his division landed at Anzio, Italy. He was subsequently wounded by enemy machine gun fire and spent eighteen months recovering in overseas and stateside hospitals.

Rod Steiger joined the Navy at age 16 to get away from home and served as a Torpedoman aboard a destroyer escorting the U.S.S. Hornet as part of Task Force 18 on the Doolittle Raid. Surprise was crucial and it was feared that the Task Force had been spotted by a Japanese fishing boats. Steiger was credited in sinking one of these vessels with machine gun fire.
