Not a fan. I'm having to make extra clicks to see the detail that I was able to see previous. Not only an extra click but it takes me away from the sight.

Pics are half the reason I come to this forum... I also dislike the smaller pic size.

Probably saves a few $$$ on data transfer/server costs,
but is definitely not a plus under 'site improvements' tho. BOTD really went in the shitta with this fix. Was this announced, or did it just 'happen'.?? ETA - scrub that bit on the data transfer, as all images have to be hosted elsewhere, anyway. So I cannot figure out the reason for this backwards 'improvement'. |

The previous 800 pixel width limit was right on the ragged edge of readable for tables, graphs, slides, and so forth.
The new 500 pixel limit is terrible. I feel like swinging a cactus. |
|
And, I think the avatars are now larger than their native resolution.

i was helpfully linked here from my rant in GD: https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1746301_image_resizing__downsizing__on_ARFCOM_sucks__you_can_t_even_see_the_nipples_i_posted___.html i agree with the OP in this thread, the new image (re)size is retarded. ARFCOM is not all about mobile phone users with 3" screens, fellas! ar-jedi |

I thought they were too small before. Now they are terrible.Does GB read ARF on a 15" CRT?There are so many great pho threads on ARF. Typically gun or aviation. Here is what they look like on my not all that large 24" monitor... http://i.imgur.com/vGvamuH.png Why not give us a user setting so that we can disable this? Or, barring that, a lesser improvement would be to make them into links to the original full sized image. View Quote This. |

Boooooooooo! Hissssssssssss!
Every picture thread is ruined now. |
|
Agreed, pretty terrible idea. The images were already too small. This is not 2001. The average arfcomer is not on a 28.8k modem with a 15" CRT
|
|
It is hard enough to see details with my vision without going to neutered pic sizes.
I say booooooo as well. |

the limit should be a choice in the preferences, or they should make it so you can click to enlarge. or both View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I agree, this change is making this site almost worthless because arf thrives off of pictures and especially in the tech threads.

Yep...I thought I had screwed up when I posted a pic yesterday.
Nee format blows, switch it back. |
|
It's just like the Glock vs 1911 debate; where the thumbnail images are Glocks, and unrestricted image sizes are 1911.

This may be the first time in the history of ARFCOM we can get 100 posters to agree on anything.

Goatboy, here's a suggestion.....
Put the images inside a post block Div, and then make the div xx%, and then make the image "responsive" ...at least, that's what one of our developers told me. |
|
|
At least disable it on pic threads.
ETA: I don't mind it overall. |
|
I didn't really notice till this thread. I use my phone mostly and am use to zooming in...

The new picture format really degrades my enjoyment of surfing around the forum. The default picture size as it now stands is far too small the resolution most modern monitors are capable of.
The concept of a standardized picture size is not new and for what it is worth I understand it, but would hope the powers that be are just experimenting and the picture resolution will return to some larger more reasonable size. The avatar sizes appear to be stretched versions of the originals now as well though I could just be imagining that. I would just assume those stay smaller. Just my 2 cents. |
|
|
I don't understand why you can't use responsive formatting, to make the image fit the screen size.
|
|
I also would appreciate it if we could get the pictures back to normal.

View Quote "disable it on pic threads"? what defines a picture thread? the word "picture" is in the subject line? how about in the tech forums, where folks may want to reply with a closeup of feedramp damage or some such? you have to get the OP to put "picture" in the subject line? the simple solution is to downsize images *only* for mobile users. this is easily tagged off of the browser's request -- the server then knows how wide the monitor is in pixels. presenting a 500 pixel wide image to everyone is retarded. or we can just train the mobile users not to click on threads with images. ar-jedi |
