The other day I was at work going through some of the industry and company resources. Then I looked for a popular + free forum for the security industry. I haven't found one I like yet.

Does Arfcom have this already and I haven't found it? Or might this be a good subforum for those who work in the security industry and are seeking information sources, networking, tips and tricks, etc?

This is a huge and growing industry around the entire world; and if cigars and "shaving" can get their own sub forums and Security can't... then MY GOD.

There are two million full time security workers in the United States.

The security is expected to grow 21% by 2020.

There are a lot of armed security officers; and the armaments are likely to keep advancing and required firepower to keep increasing. What better place for personnel to get info before telling their bosses what weapons they think should be required/requested, ordered, and used.

I would like to see it IF it could be modded good enough to keep it on track.

This site has an unusually fervent hate for private security in general.

There is a forum dedicated to all types of job listings in the Team section of the site.
It seems to be busy. I'm not sure why we need another one specific to security professionals.

This seems to be the main reason you want a specific forum.
Moderating it would be interesting. I think posts would spill over into GD and there would be no way to prevent that or the arguments that would ensue.

Arfcom, to my amazement, has the largest HAM radio forum on the web.

It may take some time, but from what I found out on the net; Arfcom could easily get on the train earlier and take  over all of it. That while providing a home to a whole new crowd.

I wish I could speak to modding it, but I don't know jack on that.

"This site" has people of all sorts of pursuasions, and opinions are like assholes.

"Private security" as an industry is very broad, and I dare say most hate we do see is very narrow, focused on the mall cop stereotype.

Some people here have an almost religious reverence for security contractors who do overseas work. We have several who post here.

Then we have the guys who patrol apartment building parking lots and think too highly of themselves.

We probably also have plenty of the "fat guy at the building entrance who gets killed first" stereotype as well.

This doesn't even touch on executive protection, industrial security, etc.

My intent wasn't to bring in fans of contractors or haters of mall security, but rather security personnel. Whether that's the lower paid unarmed residential security guard, or the mid pay armed nuclear security officer; which ever.

Someone who's truly interested in something usually has info to pass on. Same for the security industry. The exact crowd you'd think Arfcom would want to tap.

You think a security forum would attract the wannabes of society? An AR15/gear/etc forum already draws in all the mil and LE wannabes and fans. I can't see it getting any worse than it is, as far as attracting those people.

Honestly, hardly any of my coworkers will look at this forum. There's nothing to draw them in, even though we use AR's. Was the same thing on the mil side. We already work with the weapons, gear, training, etc, every day; so why converse with all the crazies and wannabees on the internet? Professionals would, if they thought it was a gold mine of info for the picking.

So there's no actual reputation to tarnish here. Plus it'll draw the crowd that does this stuff as a profession.

Blackwater USA – Hurricane Katrina / Rita Relief Project.
I was contracted to provide armed security for FEMA, in disaster recovery centers throughout New Orleans. Duties included: Managing large crowds, monitoring compliance with client protocol, ID verification, vehicle inspection, perimeter security, and asset protection. I was promoted to  C2 and placed in charge of  a DRC in the Garden district. I supervised scheduling and contract performance for 6 guards utilizing Excel, Word, and Office to generate reports.
Additional follow on invitations from Blackwater included:

VIP contract Super bowl XLI: January 2007- Provided access control services for the Colts. Facility security, check point ID verification, and Special Services for the “Day of Game” seclusion.
World Wide Selection: State Dept.  March 2007- after passing consideration qualifications, the contract expired and they ceased their existence as an American PMC.

The contract detention officers, transportation officers, etc; who work contract for ICE all make well over $50K/yr to start.  Check that out.

I'd also be interested in a private security sub forum, provided the asshattery was kept to a minimum. I'm not sure I'd have a lot to contribute, but would appreciate the input of those that do.

Well, GD is what GD is. I'm not sure that there's a dollar amount that would compel me to work in a straight up GD environment.

Agree with above, straight up GD isn't tolerable. Sadly it bleeds into every single tech section. The 'X Discussion' subs aren't much better than GD these days, thanks to the 'Active Topics' feature.
