I really. Really. Hate North Dakota. And it hates me.
I swear they drilled through an indian burial ground on this pad. I have had two jobs to catch up here in the past month, and both have been the worst two jobs I've ever had in this business. I have never seen so many bizarre mechanical/electrical/personnel issues on one job in my life. And now I got a flat tire.

I would frequent an oil and gas sub forum. Pipeline ROW survey / compliance auditing & cathodic protection. |

Things were so busy at the time, that a lot of the units weren't all painted. |

Getting ready to install some cathodic protection on an old tank that is being put back in service. This is the entrance, right around seven feet tall.
This is inside the tank before we started digging our anode holes. Generally the standard operating procedure is for the sand to be removed and be working on top of hard pack, they wanted to re use the sand which we eventually had to tell them was a no-go. It was like working on a beach, which is difficult when trying to dig anode graves and the needed trenches to tie them all together. It has a floating ceiling that adjusts it's position dependent upon how much material is in the tank, it's roughly seven feet high.
Digging the anode graves with a mini-x, the operator will scrape his hard hat on the ceiling if he doesn't keep his head turned slightly to the side. You also have to be mindful of the pillars holding the ceiling in place and also mindful of not over extending your excavator's arm otherwise you will hit the ceiling which creates an extremely loud noise that will make your heart skip a beat.
This is an anode grave with a layer of carbon coke poured in the bottom to increase the effective surface area of our anode. Each of the nine anode grave received thirteen bags of coke, which weighed fifty pounds that had to be carried in by hand across the loose sand and then hand dumped into the holes which results in looking like a coal miner after two bags. After the anode is laid in the grave it's of vital important no soil falls in and makes contact with it, it's not an enjoyable experience. You can also see how good the lighting is inside the tank, this grave was maybe thirty feet from the main entrance.
I've got a handful of other pictures I'll be posting in a thread in Team. |

Workin today. Managed to get off 4 fracs in 8 days.
Trying to get folks to use proper procedures and practices when pumping fracs takes time... I should be a consultant, but you can't teach some people. Sheesh. 99% of screenouts are preventable. DON'T FLUSH A WELL WITH CO2! Also, DON'T PRESSURE TEST WITH CO2! |

Sloper here. I am a rope access supervisor for various tasks. Right now I work with the Corrosion-under-Insulation team, but we also do NDT, and maintenance for locations where scaffold isn't practical or cost effective.
I've seen some incredibly cold weather, and been through some awesome blizzards. It's no joke when you can't even see your hand held in front of you. Here's a few snaps:
We get to ride a hovercraft out to the man-made island of Northstar
Inside a turbine exhaust stack performing visual inspection on the heat protection.
Some cool wildlife up here: ![]() |
