Dunkel just means dark in german. There are certainly plenty of good dark beers out there, including German ones.

I tend to like the dark bock and especially doppelbock stuff, like Samuel Adams double bock, and Abita Andygator, etc.

I have fond memories of Hacker pschorr dunkel weisse. It has been quite some time since I have had one as I have migrated over to the maltier Scottish and English ales as well as stouts.

I had warsteiner dunkel for the first time a couple of weeks ago.  I picked up a six pack yesterday b/c I thought it was really good.  I saw hofbrau dunkel when I was looking but didn't pick it up.  Now I may have to after I finish the warsteiner.

I like dark, amber or bock beers.
