Is this stuff ( Proraso Green) really as good as it's made out to be? I tried the Proraso Red, and while a good performer with a rich lather that was easy to load on a brush and left the skin moisturized, the scent was weak and not all that great. I once considered Green for a springtime scent (tried Captain's Choice North, but it didn't take) but heard it smelled like Vicks Vapo Rub or Halls Cough Drops.

Simple answer no.
Long answer
It smells like weak Vicks Vapor rub, not off putting but not special in any way. It lathers up easy as pie because it has a detergent agent in it. And it's the Italian's barber shop quality product, ie it's inexpensive and works pretty good.
It's nowhere near top of the line, but it can be found locally as CO Bigelow, it's cheap, and the menthol chill is nice on a warm days or when you've had a long night and need to wake up.
Products better than it from Italy alone. Saponificio Varesino, Valobra, Cella, Xpec, Antica Barbiera colla, Aqua di Parma, Pannacrema Nuvia, Santa Maria Novella, & RazorRock.
You could give it a spin though from Bath and Body works for $5.
Personally though I reach for Lea classic when I want proraso level menthol and Arctique by Barrister & Man when I want to freeze my damn face off.
