Those are really nice watches.  I am not a fan of their rubber strap, but it wears really nice on a nato.

I'm not sure whether there's anything special about these. This Hamilton railroad pocket watch belonged to my great grandfather who worked on the railroad. He died when he was struck by a train. It was passed to my grandfather, then to my father, and now to me.

After setting it and giving it a full winding, it ran perfectly for approximately 36 hours before it needed to be wound again. Seems to keep time perfectly, though I've not determined its exact +/- seconds per day.

I got some new straps today, and was trying to show contrast in the pic.

Not the best, I think the eye is drawn to the top, but there's something going on there.

I'm not a pocket watch guy, but that thing is cool as hell, especially with the accompanying story.  Enjoy it.  Wind it, carry it, and share when and if, someone asks for the time.

Thank you, the story definitely makes it interesting. Also, when it's running, it's pretty loud. Fun to hear it ticking away. I've never worn a pocket watch and very rarely need to dress formally. But, should the need arise, I think I will figure out a way to carry this on that occasion.

Keeping in mind I know nothing about pocket watches, I've seen pics online with the backs off. My fingernails don't seem to have the purchase to pry off the back when I tried to back when I took those pics and posted about it. I didn't want to break anything. I haven't tried since.

I'm willing to try again, but, any pointers on the right way to take off the back?

It should simply unscrew. Usually placing the watch between your hands and a good twist will loosen it.

I'd love to see a pic of your display. I could see doing something like that with this one given its family history. It's older than I was expecting.

Here's the one I inherited from my dad. It's a 1943 Elgin:

Browsing eBay, it looks like some of those Hamiltons go for some good money.

That display case is beautiful. Really like that. Looks like a great condition piece. And your new one too! Do you ever carry them? I figure I'll carry mine if I ever get tagged for some black tie affair in the future.

I never carry them for fear of damaging or losing them. Never been much on wearing a wristwatch, either. Only if I'm dressing up for some occasion, usually. I might bring a pocket watch on a black tie affair. Need to find a chain for it.

I'm usually not into watches, but I just picked this Fossil watch up. Gunmetal gray band with the navy dial. Matches my wedding colors for the guys' suits and the girls' dresses.

This showed up today.  Found it on eBay and the price was right ($200).

Shinola makes them.  Quartz with a screw down stem, 30atm rating, and an AR coated domed sapphire crystal.  42mm case.  I love the lighter blue tone on the bezel between 12 and 3 and the fact that the bezel is lumed is a bonus.  I like big easy markers and not a lot of clutter.  A classic retro look, but with a no BS water rating.  I need to get it on a NATO strap, and from what I understand the lugs have 2 sets of holes.
