[ARCHIVED THREAD] - "TIE" guys - do you use tie pins, clips, etc etc

I was just going thru a box of my dad's stuff, he was an engineer and worked in an office and wore suit and tie, he collected a bunch of assorted tie pins and clasps and some with little metal chains. Ive got a couple with min buck knives, weatherby rifles and one with a field shotgun, pretty neat but cant remember anyone of modern times wearing that type of stuff.

I did up until a few years ago, but I don't any more.

I liked them holding ties in place... I didn't like breaking a chain on one at least once a week because I'm a klutz.

Just tie clips/bars. I don't like the tie tacks with the little chain, it still allows a lot of movement to the tie, and requires you to punch a hole through the fabric of the tie. I don't recall the last time I saw someone wearing a tie tack.

I've worn nothing but a small Jump Wings tie tack since 1986. I've replaced the back a few times but it's the same pin. It's surprising the number of comments it brings. Most people are oblivious to it though. Not that I give a shit one way or another.

I would wear a chain every now and again, but lately I've not been using anything. I prefer the appearance of a small tack or pin, but I'd rather not be poking something through the tie.

I wear a tie a couple of days a week. I have a couple of the bar type and never use them.

I usually wear a tie only maybe once or twice a year.

But when I wear a tie, I use my grandfather's onyx tie tack. He died 22 years ago last January, so every time I wear it I think of him. I still miss him.

I always wear a tie bar, 3/4 the width of the tie, straight across between buttons 3 and 4. Never slanted..., like people that wear square toe "dress shoes", you look like a tool when you do that.

I've got a robust collection of these:

Low profile, and beats the Trump scotch tape option.

I do have a few tie clips, but don't wear them all that often.

I occasionally use this style tie chain

what bugs me is a few of my ties have the piece on the back that you put the tail through too far down the tie and I can't use it, so the tail and main part of the tie flop around separately from each other

I see guys wearing that kind of thing. Cufflinks also. Styles vary.

It's your dad's stuff? Wear it with pride if you like it. No worries.

I wear a tie every day for work and only ever use a tie bar. I'm on my feet a lot at my job and it keeps my tie from irritating the piss out of me.

Never have, but I dont usually have to wear a tie to work. May have to with my next job so i'm looking into a tie bar
