So I've been getting a wild hair lately to brew things I don't usually drink. Last fall I made a porter similar to Old Peculier. This winter I made an irish stout and a czech pilsner (my first lager). These are styles that are outside my normal consumption. I usually drink pale ales, IPA's, amber's, a few browns but I like them to have hop presence, and Belgians. As you can see those beers I made are outside my normal drinking habits. Here is what I've learned about doing that:

Unless you have friends that like the style, don't do it. When I get in the mood for something "out of style" a six pack will usually quench the craving. What the frack do I do with 5 gallons other than give it to friends? For me this is a problem. I wind up neglecting those beers for the ones I have that are in style. My MO from now on is I will just buy the six pack of the "out of style" beers and stick to my guns. This is not "the way I think things should be done." This is just me starting a conversation with you guys on a Sunday afternoon.
Beer is therapeutic, beer is good, beer gives me something else to focus on.

Personally I don't care for IPA's or "red" style beers or even most of the lighter colored beers.
I like deep dark black Stouts, Porters, and most anything full bodied that you can't see light through.

That said, just this morning I put a German style Kolsch beer in primary fermentation because sometimes when it gets hot I do like to swig down a cold crisp pilsner style beer.....

I'm just going to play devil's advocate ––

People talk about building a pipeline. I'm building a library. I don't keg, so there's no need for me to actually drink the beer in a timely fashion. So I brew far, far more than I drink and wind up just stashing a lot of it. Additionally, I try to brew a lot of stuff which will age well (e.g. Belgians or stouts). I don't go out of my way to brew styles I don't drink (I think that would be silly), but I get the urge to brew something when I'm starting to enjoy the style. I try to drink pale ales and such quickly.

Right now, I'm starting to appreciate Czech Pilsners more. I have a temperature setup now so I think I'll do one in the future.

FWIW- Old Peculiar is an 'Old Ale' not a porter.
I brew whatever, I feel like at the time. Sometimes to style & sometimes not.
Actually, my next beer will fit into a BJCP/AHA Category. .But, the one after that won't fit style guidelines (except, experimental).
I just drink what I feel like & can be found in WV.
But, I do have a Belgian stash.

Honestly, I don't particularly care for IPA's. Just too bitter for my taste. I prefer a balanced tasting beer- not too sweet and not too bitter. My favorite beer types are German Lagers, pilsners, English bitter, and double bocks.
In there like swimwear.

I am not an IPA guy, but I will make batch this year because everyone I know seems to love them and I will drink them if they are in my fridge.

I'm not a big fan of IPA's, or English style beers but will drink one on occasion to have something 'different.' The great think about beers is that there's so many styles to choose from.

I don't normally like English styles, but I have been on a barleywine kick lately and had a few English barleywines I liked (particularly the oak aged variety).

BMC (should be obvious)

Wheat beer. Tried many and I don't like it. Would rather drink something other than beer if i have the option.
