The harvested yeast doesn't seem to be going that strongly at the moment. It's keeping the airlock pinned up, and smells right, it's just not really bubbling very hard. Then again, it's only a pint of wort in a half gallon jug, so . . .

Meh, it's been a while since I've done any homebrewing, so I may end up just making a mess. Hopefully not.

It sounds like you're doing things right. You may want to remove the airlock and place foil loosely over it though in order to allow oxygen to enter (yeast need oxygen for reproduction even though they don't need it to make alcohol).

A stir plate would be very helpful, intermittent shaking is recommended if you don't have one.

Ah, thank you sir. No stir plate here, but I do have two hands. I read about using foil, but it seems to me that would increase the chances of infection, no?

ETA: Okay, I'm back. I removed the airlock, gave it a good shake, it got a little foamy, foam subsides, three piece airlock back on and immediately it pins back up to the top.

Ah, yes, the benefits of a home office.

Yeah, it might increase the chances of infection, but not by much I don't think.

The only way I'd use an airlock instead of foil is if I used pure O2 in the starter (I do that, but then I *still* use foil).
If you can actually use all of the power you have, you don't have enough.

Please post the results if you get your yeast going and brew this. I am almost out of my DFH60 clone I brewed a few months ago and would love to have 2 cases of 2H.

I just bought the project box from Radio Shack to make my own stirplate. You should look into that, it will help tremendously on your starters.

No real results yet, but I thought update you all on my experiment.

The harvested yeast seemed to have petered out in CO2 production. It lost that yeasty smell, and started to have a slightly citrusy sweet, and faint pheno phon . . band aid smell to it.

Not real sure about that, but I pitched it into the wort anyway. I also cheated pitched a packet of Safale US-05 into it. Fermentation took off after 24 hours and is going strong. So here's to hoping.

Haha... not quite, just an industrial electrician. I call my brewery High Voltage Brewery and all my beers are electrically themed. The Dragonfly Days is actually the beer my SO brews, so she named it.

Some of my other beers are BlackOut and P.C.B, which are both porters with two different flavors, Battery Acid which is an Irish Blonde that I tint green for St. Patrick's Day, Brown Out which is a nut brown ale, and Dead-Time Ale a seasonal pumpkin spice ale brewed around Halloween.

So I ordered everything to make a 2H clone. I am using this recipe which people say can't tell apart form the real thing: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f69/bells-two-hearted-ale-clone-close-they-come-91488/

I am starting a house for a new client and was B.S.'ing with him while waiting for the Mason, and found out he is a home brewer so we are going to brew this next week when we get caught up.

My 2H Clone has been in the secondary for almost two months now. I'm dry hopping this weekend, and letting sit on the hops for a week before bottling. Can't wait.
