Howdy,

I have two 1st type Portuguese m964 ponchos that have been sitting in storage for forty+ years. The ponchos are constructed of camouflage-printed canvas with a rubber backing bonded to the inside. The canvas is in like-new shape and will resist water intrusion just fine when treated with durable water repellent finish. The rubber has become brittle with age. It is possible to rub it off in some places, but it is stubbornly bonded to the canvas in others.

Is there a method available to dissolve the rubber while leaving the canvas and its camo print unharmed? Acetone seems like a leading candidate so far.

Test with ordinary paint thinner.

If it is latex rubber it should come off.
Other type (synthetic) may not.
