I'd say 90% of the meat I buy is "manager special" stuff...been this way for years.
In the freezer it goes. Great stuff.

Depends... I'll buy clearanced stuff if I catch it soon after its been marked noting the packed on and sell by dates... If its too discolored or otherwise shows signs of age I'll pass. Eat it that night or freeze it... I tend to get fancier seafood under the same circumstances.

The discoloration is caused by exposure to oxygen and light. Grocery retailers know people won't buy grey meat, even if it's perfectly safe. Think of aged meats. If you saw how a whole rib roast came out of the aging coolers, you'd be disgusted. But, with a little trim of the mold and dry scabs, meat connoisseurs get a hard on for it. |

I buy it all the time. I usually get to the store just as it's being re-labeled because they do it always at the same time of the morning.
