Here's the thread in GD, featuring the California State Senator getting indicted, as well as others who are not named.

One of the articles in that thread references this news story.

Included in the raids was a building in San Francisco's Chinatown housing a group called Ghee Kung Tong, a masonic organization. *
According to the Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon, the Ghee Kung Tong uses some elements of Blue Lodge Masonry, but it is not a Masonic organization.

Almost a century and a half after the fact, it would be difficult if not impossible for regular Freemasonry to object to the Hongmen Society's use of the term Freemasons (The Hongmen Society is the source organization for the Ghee Kung Tong masons.) In fact members of the society strongly defend their right to use the masonic square and compasses emblem, as can be seen during their anniversary celebrations in August 2010 and on the occasional grave marker. Regular freemasons will simply have to live with the confusion and, should the topic arise, point out that there is no similarity or connection between the two societies. The Hongmen is not irregular or clandestine Freemasonry; by the Landmarks of the Order it is simply not Freemasonry.
I've done a fair amount of reading in BCY's historic section. From what I've been able to verify, they're pretty sharp. If you're not familiar with their Lodge and research, use the History link at the top of their page. Enjoy.
