THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I sent an email to my local lodge asking when it would be a good time for me to stop by, but I came toward the later end of the time range they specified and the door was already locked and I was unable to enter the lodge. I plan on trying again at their next stated meeting. |

Freemasonry is the oldest and largest fraternity in the world. Read through the information here and ask away.

Here's an example of what Freemasons do.
We found out, this morning, that a member of our lodge was having some financial problems. Within 20 minutes of phone calls and text messages we had gathered over $500. |

It may have been they lock the door when the meeting started. Yes, go a little early.

A lot of Lodges have a meal about an hour before their stated meeting, at which you will be most welcome as a guest. If your local lodge is like ours, we also have informal gatherings on the same day of the week, on a weekly basis. That might be an even better time to tour the lodge and get some one on one time with a few brothers. Before stated meetings, they are usually distracted with the dinner thing and preparing for the meeting. I'd suggest calling the secretary and discuss it with him. The secretaries of Lodges are usually the ones who really know what's going on when. Good luck and keep us posted. |

I Know many masons and am interested in joining. The ones I know all belong to 1 of 2 lodges close to where I work. I live 25 miles away. Am I better off speaking to those I know and who are closer to my work or knocking on the door to the lodge close to home where I know no one?

You might find you like the dynamics of the lodge members closest to your home. Explore them both. Find one that fits you. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Before you decide, take a look at what day of the week and time any given lodge has its stated meeting. Is it a hassle to get there in time after work? If you choose to serve as a Steward fixing meals, is that going to be an even bigger rush for you? We have had a few brothers who live and/or work far enough away that attending lodge on a regular basis is sometimes a headache with traffic and all. |

2 years ago the WM actually brought up a motion to replace the tylers sword with a rifle. the ONLY reason it failed was due to tradition.

Let me ask the obvious question –– is this a "symbolic" sword - i.e. a badge that is worn or a "real" sword with a pointy end? If I were ever the Tyler, could I use an ASP baton instead? |

I cant really tell you what we do, but I can tell you what we accomplish. We make men better men, and keep each other on the paths that we belong on. We project a positive outlook on the community and above all put our brothers before ourselves after God and family. I will tell you this. You will never die alone, be without food , water ,and protection provided there is another mason brother alive.
Its a great fraternity and I encourage you to investigate it for yourself...Good luck |

When I was Tiler, my sword was definitely real. I'm a big guy, and the WM saw fit to present an appropriately big (think broad sword) blade to the Lodge. Very pointy and the edge could draw blood. |

It looks like I will be able to visit my local lodge on Monday. I plan on bringing my grandfather's items to get more information on them and to find out more about Freemasonry for myself.
I'm assuming the following rules of behavior will apply: - be polite - don't try to enter the lodge proper unless invited (and don't expect to be) - no concealed carry - no jeans, shorts or sneakers - don't draw my grandfather's sword unless asked to Does this sound about right? |

I'm new on the site, but I am a (Charter) Past Master & Founding member of my lodge and what your experiencing is the same thing we all felt at one time or another, Best Advice....be yourself ,tell them up front your a bit nervous..I Guarantee they will make you feel at home........and I never even noticed where your from. I also seen in a earlier post you had 2 lodges you were thinking of joining, good advice was given, but allow me to add to it, it you join one Far from home your going to be less likely to continue going, it's human nature to over a long peroid to get complacent or in Hillbilly terms saying .....Aww man I don't feel like driving X-amount of miles tonight, I just got off work, ill have to rush to get there....bla bla bla (Charter) P.M.
