I don't know why I put it off, but I finally read Tony Monchinski's Eden, Eden 2:Crusade, and I just finished #3 Resurrection. Really good stuff. 1 and 2 are pretty much back to back and then 3 is like 25 years later. The first 20 pages or so of book 2, where Bear is wiping out a whole city of Z's is crazy stuff. I'm really looking forward to book 4.

I just finished Steven Knights "Gathering of the Dead" and the follow up novella "Left With the Dead". Both were really good. It's about a special forces ODA team trapped in NYC after a failed rescue of a scientist with a "cure". The only thing that might throw some people off was that some of the Z's were special. And when I say special I mean they shot guns, and drove a car special. I really liked both stories though, and being that they were only $2.99, and $1.99 a piece didn't hurt either.

My 17 year old son really likes zombie fiction and I've read a few of his books from time to time.

A couple of weeks ago he turned me on to one of the best zombie-themed online stories I've ever read since the Day by Day Armageddon series.

 Check out Adrian's Undead Diary.

It is a story about a former Army Infantryman and his day to day fight in a zombie apocalypse.  Very well written and a real page turner.  Spent all of my free time over a weekend reading it.

I was told about it by Crash2t2. I went to the site and poked around for a few minutes and got distracted, need to go check it out again. I've also been told that there is a pay only section that offers a lot of side stories as well as maps and maybe some graphic art iirc... anyone know if the extra pay part is worth it?

Yeah.

It's actually good enough to be turned into a book, which I've got a feeling will actually probably happen.

At least for now it's free and online.

Just finished Peter Cline's "Ex-Heroes". It's been out for a year or two, so I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere. I really enjoyed it. I had seen all the reviews saying it was good, but the idea of zombies and superheroes really didn't get me going. I read just about every other zombie book Permuted Press has put out but this one. So the other day the ebook went on sale for $2.99, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Again, I really liked it. It just adds a completely different twist to normal zombie books. I finished it this morning, and then downloaded the newest book "Ex-Patriots" too. I've also got "Among the Living", and "Domain of The Dead" on my nook after I finish it.

started getting into the walking dead graphic novels a wile back,
I was picking up the next hard cover installment and I came across a graphic novel called "CROSSED"

if you are into zombie graphic novels its pretty bad ass, really more of a "crazies" or "28 days later" type concept,

but extremely bloody and graphic, with good character development and plot.

definitely recommend for any zombie lover

New guy here!  I was directed to this forum by a post in the SIGForums that was talking about Hornady's Zombie-Max ammo.  I wanted to mention two other zombie-themed works.  One is High school of the Dead, a 13 episode anime based on a manga of the same name.  You can see the first two episodes as a guest at Anime Network's website.  All you need to do to see the rest is to register at the web site-there's no charge.

I've taken the premise of H.O.T.D. and crossed it over with another anime series, You're Under Arrest, that's set in a Tokyo police station.  I call it "Bokuto Precinct of the DEAD" and it is on the FanFiction website.

Hope you give them a try.

I thought I'd add this movie.  It's easily the most bizarre film I've ever seen (maybe excepting Eraserhead,) and I will buy a copy of it for its sheer bizarreness.

It's on Netflix right now.  Here's my stream-of-consciousness review I wrote while watching the movie:
Helldriver is billed as a Japanese zombie flick.  But it is so much less, and so perfect.

Forget the high-handed attempts at intellectualism we see in Miiki films like 'Visitor Q' and 'Ichii the Killer'.

'Helldriver' is pure madness, with
buckets and buckets (and buckets) of blood, zombie antler harvesting,
amateur heart transplant surgery, game shows from hell,
chainsaw-wielding zombies vs. chainsaw-katana-wielding schoolgirls,
exploding heads (and hearts and Japanese schoolgirls) and of course,
buckets of blood.  Did I mention zombie-huntress pole dancing?

Cannibalism, Japanese protest songs, stupid American tourists overdosing
on mercury-laden whale sushi, weird scenes that flit in and out like
frames from a torture-porn film, and of course, buckets and buckets of
blood.

Post-apocalyptic street vendors sell Cup-o-Roach and Toad Surprise, and yell "Rice is expensive!"

The film kind of lost me about a quarter of the way through when it
delved into totally unnecessary exposition and character development,
but redeemed itself later with a little cripple abuse and pudding
worship.  The brain bar at the Zombie Tavern was cool.

Odd little sequence of a Japanese businessman arguing for the civil
rights of zombies (worried about revenue loss?)  Even more touching was
him turning into a zombie snack immediately after his proclamation.

Other highlights:

A 'Running Man' scene emceed by a Japanese Hitler with (wait for it...)
buckets of blood delivered by coffin-shaped Iron Maidens.  Of particular
note was the Zombie head mortar attack, complete with chainsaw brain
surgery and a zombie head that likes to...get down...on one of the
heroines.

After all that, it started to get weird.

Run!  Ruuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome.  It could have used more gratuitous bare female torso (although
one memorable scene involves a girl getting a zombie breast reduction
procedure.)

Yeah... sounds sort of OK.  But did it have buckets of blood?  Cuz that type of movie wouldn't be any good without buckets of blood.  Oh, and the blood needs to be sort of splashed around, not just left in the buckets.  Because that would be boring.

Been awhile, but here's my recent list

Zone One- Colson Whitehead ......tough read. Definitely not your typical zombie fiction. After finishing it and looking back I see what he was trying to do, and I enjoyed it.

The Failed - Jim Bronyaur.....good book

Dead Earth- The Green Dawn...more good stuff from Permuted Press. I haven't had a chance to pick up the sequel yet, but I will.

New Zed Order:Survive- Todd Sprague....another Permuted book. Again, good stuff.

The Becoming:Brother in Arms- Jessica Meigs....a short novella to go with The Becoming. Very good.

Autumn- David Moody...pretty good too. Set in the UK so it's not gun porn heavy. I enjoyed it.

Rise-Gareth Wood....another Permuted book. Again, good stuff.

Both of these books were easily among the best I have read from the this new wave of zombie fiction.

Man, I remember just a few years ago, I had to re-read the same 15 or so zombie books over and over again.  Now, I can barely keep up with the latest zombie fic.

Wow... It's remarkable what you can find on Amazon for free.  They offer quite a few free digital download of some books.
I've downloaded these into my iPad.

LZR-1143: Within (A Zombie Novella)
(4 stars, 176 reviews)

Zombie Games (Origins)
(4.5 stars, 136 reviews)

Deadlocked
(4.5 stars, 419 reviews)

Valley Of Death, Zombie Trailer Park
(4.5 stars, 250 reviews)

There are actually more books, but these stood out for me.  All you need to do is do a search for "zombie books" and tons of them popped out.
