Watching walking dead and thought: Wonder what would be the best weapon for up close and personal zombie defense? Tomahawk,Kukri, machete, sword, axe???? Please give me your choices and why. Thanks

My money is on the machete.
-slight edge allows for a low mass which makes it easier to swing -much more difficult to get stuck in something than a pickaxe -almost impossible to dull to the point of worthlessness -light which makes it easy to carry -long enough to give you some reach |

forged warrior sword from budK. Why? because its what I have ever since I got drunk 2 weeks ago watching the walking dead and ordered a sword.

I imagine something that could break open a skull.
You could get by with a common dry wall hammer. |
|
Baseball bat. Good grip, decent length, light weight despite good mass, no chance of getting stuck.

So I am on a waitlist, but you can buy their 24 inch production hawks. Just shoot them an email. |

I am thinking something like this: http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj319/Krey-Klyst/Tomahawk.jpg Sorry, but for me, that would be a no go. You don't want something that could potentially get stuck in what you're hitting, especially if fighting multiple targets. Now, I'm no zombie killer, so I don't have any real world experience, thus this will probably invalidate my argument, but, logic tells me that you want to keep that weapon moving, not have it lodged in a sinus cavity with other biters on you. |

Meh, my melee weapons are last ditch. I have a cold steel Gladius for now.
|
|
Where did you get the battleth?????
It depends on the cause of the zombie outbreak. If the cause is an infection (like in the movie Zombieland or I am Legend), you don't want to get up close because of spread of disease, especially if it is blood borne. If the cause of the zombie outbreak is a chemical attack or non-infectious, there are a variety of implements, all of which were mentioned here. |

I have machetes and tomahawks, axes, bat... My thought is something that will not get stuck in the head. If you poke them in the eye and they fall, they may take your tool with them. Notice in WD how T-Dogg was quickly poking and withdrawing his poker. Maybe a long handled hammer would be a good tool.

I'd like a good mace. It wouldn't get stuck in the head like an axe or a hammer. And it would do a lot of damage.
I think a spear used as a walking stick and a mace hanging on your belt would be a good combination. Spear can be used until they get too close then out comes the mace. |

I think we have a winner here. |

While I like pointy stuff as much as the next person, I believe blunt trauma really is the way to go. NOTHING to get stuck in a skull.
Something heavy enough to smash a skull, but light enough to be......handy. Sort of like the old "trench mace." Having said that, I am sharpening the ever-loving HELL out of my repro WWII German e-tool that's been sitting in the closet. |

I'll take a machete or Swamp Rat Rucki. We are talking last ditch effort after i run out of ammo in both my rifle and pistol so i want it to be lightweight and easy to carry. Plus, a blade serves many other survival purposes.

I like the trench knife, update: I got a gift card for wally world and happen to get a Gerber machete. Will see how that works but I think this thread gave me some great ideas.

The crowbar makes alot of sense as it's a tool useful and it can be used to crush heads if necessary. A tomahawk or hatchet might also serve in the same manner.

Yes, but the bone there are openings in the back of the socket and the bone there is much thinner than the forehead. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
