Yes, it is a biohazard symbol. Not many know the difference. The name for the knife has nothing to do with the symbol on it but more to the person that would carry it. Those assigned to the CDC as Haz-Mat team members deal specifically with handling and disposal. Add to that a Bio hazard symbol and a number from 0 to 4 and you get a level of seriousness in contamination and hazard, 0 being 'none' to major bad mojo '4'.
Haz-Mat symbols include the bio hazard symbol, the 4 square symbol with 4 colors, radiological/nuclear symbol, yellow triangles, and single squares with colors and numbers. Hazardous Material includes flammable, acid, alkaline, oxidizers. explosives, biological wastes and Materials, radioactive, and a host of things. A Biohazard symbol on a Haz-Mat Team Leader's knife is specific. Okay...did I do good there? lol.... |

I would assume you were referring to the NFPA 704 diamond. Blue is health, Red is flammability, Yellow is reactivity, and the white is for special warnings. HAZWOPER certified since I work in an industrial waste water treatment plant. |

sigh...yes...I did mean the NFPA 704 diamond which is squares put on end also called a diamond. I am not going to go into the specifications I was just including it in the reference to haz mat in general and using a general description for those that are not informed on it. We probably all recognize the symbol though not knowing what it is called. I also have extensive training on this for DOT Responder from my past and dealing with hazardous material shipping and containment (shrug). Cool knife huh?

With so many doing the biohazard emblem lately, I think it might be kind of cool to see a blade with the NFPA 704 diamond. It could be listed as 4-0-0 to show that the blade places a high risk to health. |

Yes . I was considering that as well. All of the symbols will be considered in the future.
And yes, I did build this knife from a piece of flat stock. |

EOD and HAZWOPER/HazMat Emergency Response Technician since '94 Just bustin your balls baby! But you do know that with the Global Harmonization Standard your knife may have to change symbols to remain within NFPA/DoT/OSHA/EPA/CIA/IRS/and Illuminati guidelines right???? LMAO! ![]() |
