No, not really. If you really are fixed on the idea though, get a few boxes of knives from goodwill. 10 cents for the tableware type, 40 cents for the butcher/filet/chefs knife variety. Sometimes, you can find some really good quality.

I think I'd rather have a long sharp stick than a $1.00 walmart knife as a weapon. Probably not the best investment considering small improvised weapons are easily made.

Stock up on Mora knives for sure.
I bought 25 from Bens Backwoods last year and he cut me a deal. I saved a handful for myself and gave the rest out as Christmas gifts to all the guys in the family, the quality for the price is unbeatable with those knives. |

I personally will try to avoid trading items like weapons and ammo. Instead i stock up on different things i feel could be in demand come SHTF. This is stuff myself or my family could/will use, but i figure if i stock it deep it could always be used as barter if i need something when the dollar is worthless. Stuff like toilet paper, chocolate, tobacco, batteries, canned veggies & fruit, and cases of water.
You could buy 2 cans of generic canned food for the same price as that cheapo pocket knife. If someone hasnt eaten in days just think what they will be willing to trade for a meal. I like the fact that its for barter but if you never need to barter then you can use it yourself. What would you end up doing with 10 or 15 junk knives if you never trade them? |

If you toss a few packs of cigarettes in your freezer and then hold them for a year after the SHTF you will be sitting on gold. Or even better, grab a few of the $9 bottles of vodka or rum and tuck them away somewhere, same thing though. After awhile some people will be willing to trade anything just to get hammered drunk. It is sad to play on peoples addictions like that, but hey, you gotta eat. |

I've ran across them several times recently while looking for a new 511 and Robust. They claim to be the same steel and manufacturing process, but i still stuck with the Sweden made. |

I have one of the older ones that does not have a rubber grip. I just don't like the feel of the handle. Kind of cheap looking and feeling. I have not put it thru a lot but for the price its a good knife. I can promise better that a $1 wal-mart knife. |

tractor supply had winchester Gerber renamed folders for $10 in clearance and it has been a great knife, wife takes it over any of her fillet knives when prepping food.
Wish they had more I would have grabbed them all. |

BudK sells a survival neck knife for $1.98 that's decent quality and comes in a Kydex neck sheath with built in whistle. If you want to stock up on trading knives, you could do worse for more.
You might also consider stocking up on P38's for opening all of those cans that'll be laying around  |

Better yet, order a catalog. There are some real gems in that catalog, and I'm not talking about the merchandise. Things like: Handmade, one of a kind stone arrowheads, pack of 3... or the childish photoshopping of some of the blades into wildly out of scale pics. Still, the quality of the blades is okay, and the prices are really good. And they do carry Cold Steel products. Just be very careful when you read the dimensions of some of the knives, as they'll switch out between OA and blade length. I bought a set of punch daggers once that turned out to be gnome-sized. Of course, for $3, it wasn't a world ending event. |

Cigarettes are always popular, but for real value compared to the weight, marijuana would probably be your absolute best bet for something you could trade for anything you want. |
