The Missouri General Assembly is scheduled to reconvene for a veto session in September where the House of Representatives and the Senate will vote to override Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of important pro-gun self-defense legislation, Senate Bill 656.  This omnibus bill would make numerous pro-gun reforms, including permitting anyone legally allowed to possess a firearm to carry a firearm for self-defense without a permit.  Senate Bill 656 was passed out of the Legislature with overwhelming support during the 2016 Regular Session before being vetoed by Governor Nixon.

Your NRA-ILA has learned that former New York City Mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg is gearing up to spend big in Missouri, opposing any attempt to override the veto of SB 656.  Bloomberg’s anti-gun group, Everytown for Gun Safety, has been hard at work across the U.S. advocating for the harshest gun control laws that they can get away with.  This September, they have their sights set on preventing the override of SB 656.

Everytown recently funded a misleading poll in Missouri with the express intent of spreading misinformation about SB 656, claiming that it will remove the concealed carry permitting system.  SB 656 will not remove the current concealed carry permitting system, and any claim that it would is patently false.  It is extremely important that you contact your lawmakers and politely urge them to override Governor Nixon’s veto of Senate Bill 656.

The NRA has publicly condemned the veto of Senate Bill 656 by Governor Nixon, and now your legislators need to hear from YOU in order to override the veto.  Please click the “Take Action” button above to contact your state Senator and state Representative and urge them to support the override of Governor Nixon’s veto of Senate Bill 656.  Urge them not to bow to out-of-state, anti-gun interests by letting New York-style gun control come to Missouri.
