Backdoor gun control: D.C. sets impossible hurdles for carry permits

The District’s newly minted concealed carry laws require gun owners seeking permits to complete 18 hours of firearms training.
One problem: As of Wednesday, the day before a court-ordered deadline for the permitting process to begin, no instructors had been approved to teach the compulsory course.

It is just like my ex-wife.

They are going to keep pushing until the court smacks them down.   Unfortunately, the court takes forever, and rarely delivers as much of a smackdown as is necessary.

They should know that the penalty for defying a federal judge is a harsh one.  Too bad it isn't.

Obvious attempts to tell the judge to "Shove it!" should be met with contempt of court charges that result in jail time.

At least half the politicians in Chicago and D.C. should be in jail right now.

Both of you are correct....

BUT

We will keep trying!

The best way to give them the "smackdown" is at the ballot box......Take out the officials that appointed them!

I'm pretty sure we all saw this coming.

This will be a long fight.

This part has me more concerned:

The training class would not be required until Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier decides whether a legal gun owner has demonstrated a “good reason” to carry a firearm. The regulations say the investigative process to qualify for permits could take 90 days or longer for gun owners to demonstrate that they are targets of specific threats.

I guess, on the plus side, at least nobody will be forking over fees only to then get rejected, ala New York.

Any idea on if this "good reason" approval and 18 hour course is required for every renewal, or how long the permit is good for?
