Mansfield, Pennsylvania - An emotional Bob Davis greeted everyone as he thanked the kids, volunteers and the community of Mansfield for another successful event. After four days of competition the 2014 NRA International Youth Hunter Education Challenge came to an end. Bob turned the microphone over to NRA YHEC program manager, Monty Embry, to present this year’s awards to the all-around best in youth hunting.

There were several “battles” for first among these young sportsmen. A total possible score of 300 points is allotted to the individual in each event/category. With these elite participants there were multiple instances of perfect scores. All tiebreakers were determined by referring to the best scores in the Hunter Responsibility Examination.

1st Place Senior Individuals:

Ø  Archery – Oregon competitor, Reed Coozer, with a total score of 283.

Ø  Muzzleload – Pennsylvania competitor, Leonard Young, III with a total score of 295.

Ø  Shotgun – North Carolina competitor, Hunter Efrid with a total score of 260.

Ø  Light Hunting Rifle – Louisiana competitor, Doyle Donaldson, II with a total score of 300.

Ø  Hunter Responsibility Examination - Louisiana competitor, Doyle Donaldson, II with a total score of 280.

Ø  Hunter Safety Trail - Louisiana competitor, Ian Duplantis with a total score of 270.

Ø  Orienteering - Pennsylvania competitor, Leonard Young, III with a total score of 245.

Ø  Wildlife Identification - Louisiana competitor, Bradley Petras with a total score of 280.

 

1st Place Senior Teams

Ø  Archery – North Carolina Forbush Red Wampus Cats with a team score of 1312.

Ø  Muzzleload – Pennsylvania Senior Gold with a team score of.

Ø  Light Hunting Rifle – Louisiana Bayou Senior Gold with a team score of 1340.

Ø  Shotgun - Louisiana Bayou Senior Gold with a team score of 1030.

Ø  Hunter Responsibility Examination – North Carolina Forush Red Wampus Cats with a team score of 1305.

Ø  Hunter Safety Trail – North Carolina Forbush with a team score of 1175.

Ø  Orienteering – Oregon Senior Team with a team score of 920.

Ø  Wildlife Identification – Pennsylvania Senior Gold with a team score of 1260.



1st Place Winners in the Junior Team:

Ø  Archery – Pennsylvania Junior Blue with a team score of 1184 points.

Ø  Muzzleload – Big Dan’s Sharpshooter Juniors, of Utah, with a team score of 1050.

Ø  Light Hunting Rifle - Pennsylvania Junior Blue with a team score of 1150.

Ø  Shotgun - Louisiana Bayou Bandits with a team score of 940.

Ø  Hunter Responsibility Examination – North Carolina Yadkin Patriots with a team score of 1205.

Ø  Hunter Safety Trail – Oregon Junior Team with a team score of 1095.

Ø  Orienteering - North Carolina Yadkin Patriots with a team score of 640.

Ø  Wildlife Identification - North Carolina Yadkin Patriots with a team score of 910.

This year’s Bud Eiman Award, an award for excellence in team courtesy, etiquette and ethics, was presented to the Wyoming Upton Young Guns.

Best teams of 2014

The North Carolina Junior Team was declared the overall winner with a total events score of 7528.

The Louisiana Bayou Bandits Senior Team was declared the Senior Team overall winner with a total events score of 9183.
