Will these be available in the US? Perhaps Eric Holder will want the Mexican Drug Cartels to have these? http://www.theblaze.com/stories/see-the-top-6-newest-guns-israel-will-use-if-conflict-breaks-out/

Funny that they mention the galil... one of the Israelis I used to work with said his IDF unit was very happy when they got to dump their galils and get M-16s.

Probably a whole lot of factors...reliability/parts availability/weight issue/accuracy and ammo availability. Perhaps because the US shipped large quantities of the M16 at a bargain price?

Just found this, thought it interesting; "I just read an interesting excerpt from Joe Poyers book on Kalashnikov rifles on why the M16 was issued to Israeli troops over the Galil. Seems that the forged receiver of the Galil "... proved tricky and costly to manufacture and the rifle's introduction was delayed, first by manufacturing difficulties and then, when shipments were about to start, the Yom Kippur War (1973) broke out" Israel received massive shipments of US arms including the M16 which became standard issue in the IDF. As a result, the Galil was never widely issued to the IDF but was instead employed by specialized services such as armored and artillery units and Air Force antiaircraft personnel. I always thought the Galil HAD been issued widely and it's first real widespread combat use was the invasion of Lebanon by Israel." http://balashnikov.com/showthread.php?4506-Galil-vs-M16

You might find this video interesting to watch (posted 3/2012),"COOK-OFF" TEST - IWI GALIL VS. COLT M16; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-o2JopK0iw
I wasn't able to get audio in this vid but I'm curious if they tested for accuracy after all this?

I see a lot of older posts comparing the M16 vs Galil and not too familiar with Galil weapons...has there been much improvement to match the M16?

Dunno. His assessment was a little simpler... "the galils were pieces of shit and heavy... the M16s were new, lighter, and shot better". Perhaps not a direct quote, but pretty close. I asked him if he got to wear the cool rasta-cap headbag too and he just gave me the finger. I'm not Israeli, nor am I an IDF-phile... I just know a lot of Israelis and was over there for a while working a few years back....

lol it's pretty close. The galil is a POS, the m16/a4 is nice, and the tavor is nice once you get used to it.

The ones I met said the same thing. The Galil is a has-been in Israel. The full sized rifles are no longer made for IDF issuance; the left-over guns are given to reserve troops or relegated to road-block duty. There are some specialized versions still used by special units (marine commandos maybe?).

The Jericho is a 75. IE it is a clone of the CZ-75. The first guns were made of fram and slide castings by Tanfoglio, Italy (ie the makers of the Witness - another 75). Jericho is simply the local varient (the Israelis also make 1911 clones).

I don't really get it, but he said there was a lot of complaints about the sight/charging handle getting easily tangled up in your gear as well.
