My puppy is in her chew phase, and is going after the carpet.  All downstairs is hardwood, but as soon as she gets to the stairs, she likes the carpet for chewing and for peeing.  The opening at the bottom of the stairs is 44.5" wide.  I need a doogie gate that is:

- Pressure mounted
- 44.5" wide capable and STABLE (all reviews I read online indicate the "wide" models' pressure mounted screws are threaded out all the way and are unstable and fall over easily as such widths)
- Has a pass-thru gate for humans (the wider the better)
- Is a color other than white/beige to keep the wife happy (black, medium or dark wood, dark grey, etc)
- Isn't $150

Can anyone make any recommendations?  If I can get one from Wal-Mart, perfect, since the first one I bought will not work and will be returned for store credit.

I've been on amazon, petco, and walmart websites and every model that looks good on paper comes with the reviews about being unstable when extended wide.  And the wife won't let me use two-by-fours as space fillers on the sides of the gate!
