Picked up this sweet little girl yesterday. She is supposedly a 1 year old Daschund. I think she actually may be a Daschund/Bassett mix though. She is great with the kids. I need to put some weight on her though, she looks like a bag of bones.

Nice looking dog.

Why do you think she might be part basset?

Looking into that sweet face, I predict that dog will be the queen of the house in no time!

Im not real sure why I though that. I went back and did some research and I honestly don't know what she is mixed with. The vet said that she isn't a purebred. I don't really care either way, she is great with the kids and absolutely adores my wife. I think the previous guy that owned her may not have treated her very well. She seems to prefer being around women and kids more than men. She is friendly with me, but seeks out my wife if at all possible.

Here is another pic of her relaxing in the kids toy area.

Ahh, I too think she is a mix, just mixed with what is the question.  Most Dachshunds are longer in the body and shorter of legs.  Thing is, the Dachschunds of old were more structured like yours.  Plus, the long back leads to health issues, your mutt looks like she will side-step that problem.  Plus, longer legs just make getting around a lot easier.  All in all, your mutt version is probably superior to a purebred.

Here's a taxidermy of a dachshund from roughly a century ago.

After looking at her laying down I'm guessing dachshund/beagle mix. Cover her head and I see the build of a geagle. Does she sound off at rabbit scent?

I don't think she has caught a rabbit smell at my house yet. She absolutely despises squirrels and chipmunks though. She trees squirrels anytime she sees them on the ground, and then she refuses to come back inside afterwards. I have to physically pick her up and take her inside.

No barking or howling, she doesn't do much of that for anything though.
