So I just shaved my GSD mix... I'm not sure if I like it or maybe I just need to get used to how he looks  Either way He seems to like it. He swims so much it was getting to be a pain to wash him

Fell free to chuckle, I did.

How he looked before.

I hope I can do this right. I love seeing all the trained dogs. I have my third son 'Boomer' and want to share. He is not a trained attack dog but I hope he will stand my me if the time comes.

First at 6 weeks

and now at 20 months

As always he is by me side or under my feet.

tripleoption,

Is he a plush coat GSD or a Shiloh Shepherd? He looks a lot like one of our Shiloh's brother!

I've had a couple other people ask me if he's a Shiloh.  I had heard about Shilohs before, but never knew anything about them until a couple of people asked me last week if he was one.  After looking up what they looked like I see how someone would think he's a Shiloh.  He's a plush coat GSD.

How is she around gun fire. Anyone had any luck getting ear muff on a dog. Boomer tolerates it but I can tell he doesn't like it. Once we had a failed police dog that would hurt him self around gun fire or thunder. Jumped through a window to get in the house. Other than that Rusty was a dream dog. Ho yaw he hated uniforms with a passion. Have many stories about Rusty.

Her problem with gunfire is wanting to chase the projectile.  :)  I've had her around gunfire a dozen times or better, just keep her far enough back it's not hard on her ears, and tied up or in the house if I'm shooting at home.  It's just like anything else with her, she wants to be right in the middle of it, involved.

My GSD Huey loves going shooting with me. Once, I loaded everything up and left him at home and my wife said he sat by the door crying and moaning for 2 hours while I was gone. As soon as I start running stuff out to the truck he posts up in front of the door.

It took a while to get him to stay behind me while I was shooting. He always wanted to sit right at the base of the target. Now he usually lays beside me or under the truck if its a little warm out.

My wife likes to shoot clay pigeons with her 22 so we just scatter and lay a bunch of them out for her to shoot. When he was a pup he used to pick them up and bring them back to us. Sometimes we'll still toss em for him like a frisbie and laugh when he gets all confused when they shatter.

So not exactly a picture of my dog, But I didn't want to start a thread.

My wife wanted to make some crafts out of clay, so I got her some. I decided after doing a paw print to try my hand at making something cool. This is the first "sculpture" I have ever made. Feel free to flame/make fun of it, I am happy with the way it came out though (at-least for a beginner) Going to make some fine cuts to sharpen some of the features and then paint it like my GSD mix once I'm sure it has set all the way.

Jed earned himself a break this long weekend.

We worked a hard week Monday through Thursday, and he managed to get a nasty cut on the right front paw, while thumping a Woodchuck.
The hardest thing on a Mal, is making them to take a day off. Near as I can tell, it's the absolute worst insult that can be imposed.

After two days of topical antibiotics, and resentful antics, I figured family pond time was in order.

The other pooch is a Boxer/Pitt mix and probably the most "Girly" dog ever. Just a big Schmooze and couch Potato, with off the charts pack defensive drive, and no love for "Bad fur days". She doesn't lower herself to fetching a damn thing...she Nags to make sure things are fetched properly.

Mals rule...

Haha thanks so much! We have a ritual now for when we get home. I jump in the shower and scrub off the ticks, and let the water fill the tub, and he sits on the bathroom floor waiting his turn. I finish, and get out, and he jumps in and I then get to spend the next 30 minutes scrubbing him down. My wife then raises hell about the mess we made . He is an amazing dog, and has sold me on forever getting GSDs or a Mali. My wife however is extremely opposed to going to any kind of a breeder so I will probably use the GSD or Mali adoption specific websites, and driving to get the dog. I hope this is a long time away, because I honestly don't even want to think about Bear passing. For being 9 years old, he acts just like a puppy and has the energy of one too

I took mine with me on my wife and I's anniversary trip to the mountains. He had a great time, and really enjoyed the lake. I did however find out, he only likes to go in the water where he can stand. I decided against trying to get him to swim, I figure he is getting older, and no need to stress him out if he didn't want to swim.

While working today, an alien life form jumped from the ground and threatened the crew.

No worries, Jed has a "bite first and ask for forgiveness later" policy on any hostile critter under 30lbs.

Stupid drip line saddle ruptured 2' underground, when the timer opened the valve.
Instant 30GPM bubbling fountain. After the first bite, he looked puzzled , and then it was game on, full silly mode.

LOTS of Whaaarbbbllgrrrbbll!

I have all of the above except for the gloves, I will use the kids in place of them .

Do you crate your new pup day and night? My teenage daughter will be home with ours for 6 weeks during the day and after that I will have to crate or kennel during the day but I can come home for an hour or so daily.

Built up the crate time to where he was in it for maybe 16hrs a day, total. Maybe a little less. He's still really young, but he's in it less now. Maybe 12 hrs a day. We still put him in it every night unless we're traveling, in which case he's in the bed. Every dog and owner are different so you have to feel it out.  Welding gloves was only half a joke. Socialize the shit out of you're dog but use your judgement until his shots are finished. Mine has hung out with about ten other dogs but only from family or my 2 neighbors whose dogs I know never really leave the cul de sac. Babies too. Mine has been around half a dozen or so infants and toddlers and is super sweet with them. He doesn't inhale his food and just grazes so I refill his bowl as needed. He's at 16# now and gets maybe 4-5oz of raw meat for dinner on top of his kibble. Plenty of water, tons of attention, lots of love, and always training. The meat counter at your grocery store is a good place to get small beef bones for him. It'll take him an hr or 2 to chew the marrow out and you'll appreciate that time. Your daughter being home with yours will be great as long as she's up to it and can stay consistent.
Some people probably disagree with how Im doing things but it's working for us. Try to remember he doesn't understand and just wants to play with and please you and please you. You'll get frustrated at times, but try not to show it. Most of all, enjoy it. They're awesome dogs.
Congrats!

My boy Ace at 11 weeks chilling on his mat at my office. He comes to work every day and when not on the mat or training he's in his crate. I train him for about 5 minutes 6-7 times a day here and home. He's got automatic sit, heel, down, come and placemat commands down. Smart little dude! He was rattlesnake proofed a week and a half ago and it saved his life yesterday. I took him in my back yard to poop and he came tearing out from behind a Texas Ranger bush. I looked and stretched out was a 3-4 ft diamondback.

Unfortunately by the time I put the dog in the house and grabbed a implement of destruction the snake disappeared in that bush I think. I'm going to be on edge until I get that fucker, I have an 8 year old Ridgie who probably knows better but I do not want that snake living in my back yard.

He's going to be 12 weeks old Saturday, this pic is from last Friday. I tried to get a fresh one but he's sleeping and I'm enjoying the peace. As he grows he sleep more and more.
