Or both? Seems like a lot of choices for micro chipping and no clear standard. The nearby vet uses ResQ.

Pic of said dags.

I love how they snuggle! How old are the pups?

We have our girl chipped with HomeAgain. A chip (regardless of the company) seems to be a good plan as your contact info will be associated with dog even if a collar is missing.

Chip it!

According to the wikipedia article HomeAgain chips are readable by every type of scanner in the U.S. except Avid Basic, and I wouldn't worry about the Datamars, it's an ISO only scanner and apparently almost nobody uses those in the U.S. and, as the least capable scanner, why would any shelter want one?

Tattoos are so rare now nobody even thinks to look for them.

Not true at all...

Tattoo inside the ear (some prefer to have it done on the belly towards the rear of the dog) - NO scanner or special tools required to read it at all. Not all shelters will have the correct scanner and that is assuming that your dog even gets taken to a shelter if he is lost and someone finds him... There is also no guarantee that a particular shelter will accept a lost dog. An overful shelter CAN turn away a dog if they choose.

The Tattoo is very inexpensive and does not harm the dog at all. Takes only a few minutes to have it done.

Get both?

We had an OES when I was growing up. He had a tattoo on his belly and a microchip. Chips were new and lots of places didn't have scanners. His tat was his AKC registration number.

My brother raises Labs and uses HomeAgain. One of the dogs was stolen and recovered by a vet that scanned the dog and found the chip.

It works.

They are 10 weeks old. A girl (the white one) and boy (brindle). I'm pretty sure I may go both. I think Banfield uses HomeAgain, and there is one near me. I actually may call the local animal services and see what kind of scanner they use.

My dog has HomeAgain.
