Anyone have any experience with keeping Dogs from mouthing/chewing on pet turtles. I currently have 5 turtles and 2 dogs (cockers) who continually harrass and mouth/chew on the turtles.

We had a mixed breed Schnauzer when I was a kid, who would bring box turtles home and watch them until they came out of their shells, and then bark at them so they went back in.

She couldn't understand why they didn't want to play with her.

I think it's built in. Maybe also because the shell is bony plates, so they like to gnaw on turtles.

The honest answer is "I don't have a clue."

when the dog gets leprosy and his lower jaw falls off. he'll stop...

Probably just attacted to them as a dog with any other animal. PLAY is a secondary/maybe primay responce to them..

Not owning either, right off the bat I would think that the turtles would be miserable and stressed from always being "attacked". I would not let to the two really come into contact with each other.

You need to keep them separate if nobody's there to correct the dogs.

I'm surprised the turtles haven't bit the dogs.

My Eastern Mud Turtle bit my finger once and it hurt like hell.
