THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I realized that if we didn't do something that we would have a bunch of little kittens running around so I started calling about getting her spayed. $75 and $85 from the only two places in town!!!!! It is no wonder that people drown kittens in the river or shoot them. I couldn't ever do that buy HOLY CRAP!!! I called the Adopt-a-Pet and the lady told me that since I fed her and didn't let her starve that she is now my cat and my responsibility (no I am not exaggerating that is exactly what she said). I so badly wanted to reply "I guess I should have let her starve then" but I did not. She then went on to say that she would add me to the list but before they took her in I would have to get her spayed. I finally couldn't take it and said quite frankly "Why would I bring her in after spending $75+ to get her spayed?". They lady was speechless......then mumbled something about guessing that wouldn't make sense would it. I have learned my lesson from this. I will get this kitten spayed (but not the vaccines the vet said I needed to get for "public safety" that only cost another $30 or so but I WILL NOT EVER feed another stray. I love cats but I have no use for pets and will not be spending another $100(ish) on an animal that will probably get ran over or killed by a stray dog in the next year. For that matter she may just run off if she finds another home. From now on if I see another stray the food dish is coming in the garage an that is where Nibbler(the kitten) can come in to eat and then be put back outside. Sorry for the rant but this whole thing just pisses me off. My wife and I have already agreed that we will not spend more than $250 on any pet. If they are that sick then they will be put down (I can't do it in town like on the farm and don't know if I could do it anyway so there will be more $$ spent at the vet). |

The humane society down here has a van that comes around every month. The have good prices to spay/neuter pets but if you bring in stray kits, they will do it for free so that you can release them back into the wild.
Personally, I wouldn't mind shooting the critters. They are a nuisance. |

No good deed goes unpunished.
While it is still young you could pop it in a small carrier with some food and water. Place in a remote area and move to a location where you can see anything approaching the carrier. When the kitten gets hungry, lonely or whatever it will begin you howl. When the coyotes come, you can blast them ;) Kittens make great bait. |

Just think of the soup you can make now that your kitten has a little more weight on him.

Pics not loading. Go "all in" OP, get the vaccines - some diseases can be transmitted from cat to cat I believe.

There's a clinic here that runs every few months or so. $55/cat for spay/neuter and shots.

If you feed a cat for 30 days, it's your cat.
You should have let it starve. |

In my area the Humane Society runs something called the snip clinic. I've had several cats fixed there and it's something like $50 and includes a rabies shot less if you have proof they have their shots.
Check your local area there may be a similar program. |

$250? You might as well just get rid of your pets now, because just walking in the door at the vet costs at least $100. A checkup, shots, Frontline, and heartworm meds will set you back $250. |

Yeah, I'm not sure 250 is realistic unless you get lucky. The dog in my avatar required more than 3000 in knee surgeries. She was just unlucky and tore them both.
Our male Weimaraner simply shook his head once, and it popped a blood vessel. His ear swelled up real bad when it filled with fluid. That was about 700 to fix correctly. I couldn't imagine putting him down for that. We have another dog that swallowed a sock that became impacted. It was our fault..... 2500 to get it out. Not everyone will run into the unfortunate circumstances we have.... There's always the chance though. |

Pets cost money, deal with it. And there is no such thing as "Your Cat" unless you want it to be "Your Cat". Some lady at a shelter proclaiming it's now "Your Cat" means about as much as a morning bowl flush. It's not like the creature comes with a title. If that's the case, remove the VIN tag and dump it in the next county.
