I think his friend's list is full on FaceBook, but he makes all of his posts public, so you can just "follow" him on FaceBook to see what he posts.  While there IS a John Ringo Fan Club group, he doesn't post in it as often.

he had a google pic of the caravanserai up the other day, he seemed almost giddy

oddly enough, a girl i went to high school with 25 years ago just came home from there maybe 6 months ago?  i think she was in Tusheti? doing some kind of liberal feelgood helping the oppressed and downtrodden.  i laughed every time i saw Tbilisi on her blog.  and yes, Mike would have loved her

Ringo quickly became my least favorite sci fi author....I HATED him....but kept reading because he has some really incredible IDEAS.

BUT....after a while.....I started enjoying some of his later work....I have really enjoyed the Looking Glass series and though I hated the Posleen books....I thought that Sister Time and Callie's War were actually really, really good.

I'm gonna give his newer stuff a try.

Not quite... I discussed the variables involved and how long range shooters use mirage to calculate the wind, then I remembered that he was also friends with Emil Praslick (epraslick on here, usually only found in the highpower forum) and suggested he have Emil review everything I'd said... He apparently just emailed the manuscript to Emil out of the blue asking him to check the shooting info, to Emil's great surprise.  It wasn't until I was talking to Emil's wife a few years later that they learned how that had happened :-)

Now, in _Von Neumann's War_, there's a paragraph where an extremely sophisticated hacker uses a zero-day exploit as a means of contacting a data security specialist, I wrote that one morning on my way to work, after John sent a sample chapter to me that I thought didn't quite work... I expected him to modify what I sent him, but he surprised me by just dropping it in the book as it was...

I'm kind of ticked that Black Tide Rising is not available in paperback yet.  I can never choose to buy something in kindle format or paperback.  I bought the rest of the series in paperback and BTR is only available in hard cover right now on amazon.  First world problems.

How did everyone feel about BTR by Gary Poole?

I loved this series.  I am currently listening to it as an audio book and it is quite possibly even better.

The paperback release is typically a year after the hardcover release, been that way for years.  It can be longer if they have a trade paperback release in the middle.

For reference, Gary Poole is John's dedicated editor/nag, he's also his landlord :-)  So he visits John every Wednesday to try to figure out where John is in his writing cycle, help with ideas, and otherwise try to encourage John's writing productivity, in addition to curating the anthologies (since the next anthology is being put together now, along with some standalone novels in the universe).

ETA:  The author who wrote the cover story for the anthology, about the cheerleaders, happens to be the real life helicopter pilot behind the Kacey Bathlick character ;-)

I read that series at least once a year and listen to it twice.

It's just a fun series.  Suspend disbelief, drive on.

I am at about hour 50 in Atlas Shrugged.  It has been interesting...

I just looked at the publishing schedule, the paperback edition is due out in June.  The first two authors for the second anthology agreed to be in it this past weekend, one is the neuroscientist who helped design the virus and has written some articles for Baen's website, the other is a former nuke MM bubblehead who is friends with John and has been talking about story ideas for a few years (he shows up as a character in the Vorpal Blade books), I'm assuming John has seen some of his writing to include him in the anthology.  And a former SEAL officer is busily at work writing the story of Tom Smith, the uncle who gave them the early warning of the outbreak, talked with him last night online.

Monster Hunter Memoirs: Saints isn't shown on the schedule yet, but it's listed at least one place online as a November release.

Presumably, I didn't ask whether it was going more into the uncle's backstory or whether it's from the time of the fall on.  Guess I can ask him next time I'm talking to him.

Somebody did bring up at dinner that they hadn't had a signed, leatherbound edition of Ghost yet...

It's looking more and more like John might merge the Ghost and Special Circumstances universes, have the Keldara get pulled in for missions involving the supernatural...

Yeah, it's amusing how many of the senior DragonCon staff and volunteers make appearances...
