Howdy, all, I'm looking for some new authors to pick up at the local used book store.  I'm a big fan of cold war military thrillers (among other genres), but I'm out of books to read.  Instead of re-reading a Clancy book for the fourth or fifth time, I thought I'd ask here.

I've read and reread and loved:
Tom Clancy's old books,
Flight of the Old Dog, Dale Brown
Flight of the Intruder, Stephen Coonts
Red Pheonix, Larry Bond
(If you haven't read these, they're fantastic.)

A few books I've read that were entertaining, but not particularly memorable:
Dale Brown's middle-aged stuff: Sky Masters, Shadows of Steel, Tin Man, etc
Larry Bond's other works: Cauldron, Vortex, etc
Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series
Stepehen Coonts' other books: The Minotaur, etc

Books I did not enjoy:
"Tom Clancy"'s new stuff
Dale Brown's new stuff

Am I missing any great military thrillers?  I have WEB Griffin's "The Corps" series sitting on a shelf; is it worth reading?

I really liked the Larry Bond Team books. I will list them below. I have read three of the four. Good series.

Larry Bond's First Team (with Jim DeFelice)
1. Larry Bond's First Team (2004)
2. Angels of Wrath (2006)
3. Fires of War (2006)
4. Soul of the Assassin (2008)

I also liked Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell books. I think there are five in this series. I have not read the last two yet. Tom Clancy's Endwar series. I think there are three or so books in the Endwar series. Ghost Recon is another Tom Clancy sponsored series that is is good.

Oliver North has a series that I have read the first book and really liked it. Peter Newman series.

Peter Newman
1. Mission Compromised (2002) (with Joe Musser)
2. The Jericho Sanction (2003) (with Joe Musser)
3. The Assassins (2005) (with Joe Musser)
4. After Jihad (2010)
5. Heroes Proved (2012)

"The Corps" is a good read, as is his series starting with "The Lieutenants".

These are what I call "procedure" novels in that there's not much of any description of actual action, it's the procedures leading up to it.
As example, one of the Corps novel concerns a mission to rescue several Marines from a Japanese held island.
The entire book is about preparations for the mission, plus numerous side stories.
The actual rescue takes place in the very last few pages and is rather an anti-climax.
These two series do draw you in and are absorbing, IF you like the procedure type format.

Other excellent books in you area of interest:

The series about the Vietnam air war by Mark Berent.  This starts off with "Phantom Leader" and is a five book series ending with "Steel Tiger".

In my opinion the best novel about Navy SEAL's in Vietnam is "SEAL Team One" by Dick Couch.  Couch was a SEAL commander in Vietnam and has written a number of non-fiction books about American Special OP's units.

"Red Phoenix" by Larry Bond concerns a rescue of a captured Navy ship.

"38 North Yankee" by Ed Ruggero is about a Cold War invasion of South Korea by the North.

Tom Wilson wrote a three book series about the Vietnam air war, starting with "Termite Hill".

Sorry, Red Phoenix is Bond's book on the second Korean War. One of my faves.

Not Cold War, but check out Dalton Fury and Brad Taylor.  Both retired Delta, and it shows as you read their books.

My favorite of his besides Team Yankee is Sword Point, about Russia invading Iran and the US getting involved.

Ed Ruggero- 38 North Yankee, follows a light infantry Company during a second Korean War.

David Poyer- his Dan Lenson series about the "Modern Navy".
