With all the butt hurt GD has over MLP,  this line cracked me up for minutes.

"It was worse than ponies."

Well worth the $15, typos included.

If you're a fan, you'll love it. If you're not, shouldn't you be?

I've started on it.  To be honest, the first few chapters have put me off a bit.  Franks is most interesting as a side character shrouded in mystery than as a main character.  I think it would have been a better idea to have Pitt or another major character be involved and find out these details as we do, rather than just doing this sort of omniscient third person POV that dumps the info into our lap.  It's a style choice, but that's what I would rather have read and it's how I would have written it.

I'm about a third of the way through it, and I'm enjoying it as written. It is a lot more third person exposition than those written from Owen's perspective, but first person wouldn't work for Franks.

It's definitely not a standalone though. Folk who haven't started the series would be well advised to read the books in order.

I gave up on 1911s when handgunning classes became my primary hobby.

Yep, I worked the 1911 bug outta my system a few years ago.

Just bought it for my Kindle,

so far is a nice gun nut masturbation novel, entertaining but not exactly mentaly stimulating.

I finished it yesterday.  It was all right, about on the level with the Earl Harbinger novel.  Not great.  Wish he would go back to centering on Pitt and MHI.

Good read.  I enjoyed learning about why Franks is Franks.

Here is the link to it on Baen's site.  Just follow the directions to get it to your device.  You may have to create an account there to purchase it.

If you're not familiar with Baen I highly recommend the site.  John Ringo, Larry Correia, David Weber, Niven, Pournelle, the list of great authors is lengthy.  Check out the Baen Free Library.

The free library isn't near as good as it was before Amazon started carrying Baen books.  You can still find most of the books at the Fifth Imperium though.

It's a good start on Ringo, Weber, and Kratman though.

Edit to add:  I'm not familiar with Fifth Imperium.  I'll have to check it out.

It's run by Joe Buckley. The same guy that all the Baen authors kill off in their books. He's got sample chapters from upcoming releases and most of the e-book CD's that come with the hardcover books uploaded.

Ooo, where did you get that?  I think I'm going to pick up the hardcover as well.  I just like hardcover books for some reason.  Some day I want bookcases made from rich mahogany filled with many leather-bound books.

Uncle Hugo's has them. Larry's also doing a booksigning tour this week. He's at Conclave, and Westercon, IIRC.
CHeck out his website: monsterhunternation.com for more information.

Books a Million had one.  The story is pretty good, I've always kinda grudgingly liked Franks, anyway.

Got the e verson from amazon last week and I liked it.  The Franks back story was interesting but I give it two thumbs up for the 10mm porn.

I just got back from seeing Larry at a bookstore.  I went to see him last time he came through Oregon back in 2011.  Fame has not changed him that I could see (and I'm an expert because in three years I've spend a grand total of about seven minutes with him).  He was cool and willing to hang out all night if he needed to to sign books and shake hands and just shoot the shit.  An all-around good guy.  As an added plus when I asked him to sign a book for my brother proclaiming him to be a puss for not coming along with me Larry was more than willing.

I finished it this past Saturday.  I enjoyed it a lot.  On par with the other books.  I liked learning more about Franks.  I also liked the hints for the things to come.

Below is a spoiler from the book regarding Franks so don't click on it if you don't want to be spoiled.  It is something I was curious about after I finished reading it.

That's my biggest problem with the last two books.  He sucked us into the series with Owen Pitt, now it feels like he's basically abandoned the character until some vaguely defined apocalypse that's going to occur.

Clearly what he is doing is the smart thing.  Riding that money train of MHI by doing filler for back story.  Which, while I like reading about some of the other characters I would rather hear more about Pitt.  Since he is the smart ass I started the series with and the one I like.  This one felt like he was trying to make Franks out to be about the same smart ass just not as vocal.

"Oh SHIT, it's Franks!!!  RUN!!!"

I drive a lot for work, The MH audiobook series has kept me outta the ditches of Virginia for many many miles.  Just finished the Grimnoir series as well, it's definitely as good as MHI.
