Holy crap I can't put this book down. Here is the synopsis I pulled off of readyplayerone.com

"Synopsis

</header> <section>
At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, READY PLAYER ONE is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune—and remarkable power—to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved—that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt—among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life—and love—in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

A world at stake.

A quest for the ultimate prize.

Are you ready?"

Agreed that this is a great book. I read it a few months back and also had a hard time putting it down.

Ernie Cline, the author, currently has a contest going on to win a DeLorean that is similar to the contest described in the book.

For anyone who grew up in the 80s playing video games, this book will bring back a lot of memories.

Psych is crammed with semi-obscure 80's and 90's cultural references. Plus, it's cleverly written and well cast. Give it a shot.

Hilarious show.

The book was a little tedious with the geekyness but it was still pretty good. I'd rate it a solid 3.5 out of 5. I listened to it on audiobook, it was read by Wesley from Star Trek: TNG (can't remember his real name).

Doesn't sound like something I would personally enjoy. I prefer nonfiction.

Just finished it. Totally loved it. Best book I've read in a while.

I felt the same way, I let a couple of friends borrow it and they all finished it in a few days as well. The last book I got into that much was MHI by Larry Correia.

I just finished it, it was really good. I'd have to say I wouldn't draw much relation between it and the show Psych. I don't like the show, but I really liked the book.

Xplay or Attack of the Show had him on last night. (forgot which one)

He gave away a back to the future car to the first person that beat the challenge in this book.

Good book. Easy and fast read.

Never read a book where dorky references to 80's trivia would actually help you understand something.

Make sure you guys check out Larry Correia's MHI series or Hard Magic series they both capture the reader just like this book does. I've re-read the MHI series 3 times in 2 years already.

Picked it up this weekend and read it in a day and a half. This was the most fun book I've read in a while.
