SOME THINGS ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

"Fellow patriots take notice, Mr. Ulsterman has penned prophecy!" -Dr. L. Darryl Armstrong

The United States is no more, and hidden away within the isolated wilderness of Alaska’s interior resides the tiny community of Dominatus. There lives a small but diverse group of people seeking out simple lives of personal liberty and freedom, but who now face termination under the oppressive and deadly regime of the New United Nations. They will fight and if need be, die for an America that once was. An America before being swallowed up by the monster of tyrannical global governance. An America before the mandates. An America before the government drone killings.

For all who yearn for liberty and freedom, their story is our story...

The Becoming

Gets generally good reviews (four stars).

Book Description
Publication Date: November 19, 2011

The Michaluk Virus is loose.

In the heart of Atlanta, Georgia, the Michaluk Virus has escaped the CDC, and its effects are widespread and devastating. Most of the population of the southeastern United States have become homicidal cannibals. As society rapidly crumbles under the hordes of infected, three people—Ethan Bennett, a Memphis police officer; Cade Alton, his best friend and former IDF sharpshooter; and Brandt Evans, a lieutenant in the US Marines—band together against the oncoming crush of death and terror sweeping across the world.

As Cade, Brandt, and Ethan hole up in a safe house in Tupelo, others begin to join them in their bid for survival. When the infected attack and they’re forced to flee, one departs to Memphis in search of answers while the others escape south to Biloxi, where they encounter more danger than they bargained for. And in Memphis, the answers that one man finds are the last answers he wanted, answers that herald a horrific possibility that there may be more to this virus than first suspected.

“Fast zombies become slow zombies become kick-ass.”--Peter Clines, author of EX-HEROES and EX-PATRIOTS

“From the chilling opening scenes to the tension-filled climax, Jessica Meigs has crafted a story that reminded me that zombies are really scary.”--Kevin J. Burke, author of THE LAST MAILMAN

World War One: A Layman's Guide

Another book that gets generally good reviews.

Book Description
Publication Date: November 26, 2012

This guide has been written specifically for people with little or no prior knowledge of the First World War and will be an ideal introduction to what can be a very complicated and daunting subject.

Written in an engaging way, this is more like a chat down the pub rather than a heavy historical text, and with short, sharp chapters it is very easy to dive in and out without having to re-read the previous 5 pages in an effort to remember where you left off last time your were reading.

Despite this easy going nature this is not a flimsy piece of work. Made up of 53 chapters, all the major aspects of The First World War are covered. Including:

Pre-war strategies such as the German Schlieffen Plan
Why the First World War started
The early battles of Mons and The Marne
The race to the sea
The 1914 Christmas truce
Life in the WW1 trenches
Gas warfare
The war underground
Major 1915 battles such as Ypres, Loos, and Gallipoli
The roles of Canada and Australia/New Zealand in the war
World War One at sea
Verdun
The Battle of The Somme
The roles of Canada and Australian/New Zealand in the war
Tanks
Revolutions and Mutiny
Passchendaele
The Spring Offensive of 1918
How The First World War was finally won
Armistice and peace talks

For anyone looking for an entertaining and informative overview of The First World War, this Layman's Guide provides just enough detail to gain a good grounding of knowledge and understanding, without the reader becoming overwhelmed with detail and complexity.

Has anyone read this one through?  The first few chapters seemed to be pretty heavy-handed on the whole "racism is baaaad, mmmkay" angle.

Plaza was a very entertaining read.  A few points I thought were a little lame, but overall it had some good action.

It's hard to write about racism without it sounding heavy-handed with how sensitive people are these days.

But, no, I haven't read it.  Just sayin'

It's probably a fairly accurate description of the times.
I enjoyed it, but not enough to ever read again, though one of the better "freebies".

If "Of Little Faith" by David Wolf comes up free again, grab it!
Started early this am and am over half way through- very good read.

Operation Z-Day (The Raven Falconer Chronicles)

Book Description
Publication Date: October 27, 2013

FREE April 27-29, 2014 in Anticipation of the release of Vengeance Fulfilled (Final Episode) this week.

From the author of The Living Hunger comes a pandemic story written in serial form; this is Episode One (40,000 words).  Episode Two (50,000 words), Rise of the Huskers, is available now, and the final episode (40,000 words), Vengeance Fulfilled, will be released the end of April 2014 -- the carnage continues to a satisfying conclusion.  Join the mayhem!

Would-be author, Raven Falconer, is offered an opportunity of a lifetime to write and publish her first novel, Operation Z-Day.  She retreats to the mountains of beautiful Banff Nation Park in Southern Alberta to complete the work, but finds herself cut off from friends and family when a deadly virus invades Canada, and then spreads worldwide.

Thousands, then millions fall victim to the infection. The elderly and weak succumb, while impacted survivors lose cerebral brain function and ultimately their identities; spiraling into a vegetative state where only carnal instinct prevails.

Raven eventually emerges from a secluded cabin to find marshal law instituted and the world turned upside down, where kill or be killed is rampant. Join Raven, her best friends Mick, Bobi, and Hannah for the ride of their lives. Throw in an Olympic Biathlon competitor, Nathan Edwards, infected with the transforming virus and nowhere is safe.

Episode One traces the roommates' flight from the city and their face-to-face encounters with an emerging, deadly threat, the Huskers: animalistic post-viral humans who will do anything to survive.

True, lol. I wouldn't mind it if it were more subtle.  I don't need the author to spell it out for me, I recognize racism and bigotry when I read it.  If they want to use that as an element in their story that's fine with me. Just don't be so obvious about it.

I anticipated a different novel than the author delivered, based on the title. It did a yeoman like job of entertaining me for an afternoon.
It's easy to criticize - harder to praise. I've read worse - much much worse. For What It's Worth.
