I wholeheartedly agree, made me angry and gave me hope(about our country) at the same time. Parts of it make me realize that pure unmitigated evil exists in the world and I'm glad that my own kids were able to grow to adults without ever having seen it first hand. |

I finished this book last week, gave a unique view of what happened over there. I enjoyed it quite a bit even though it shows what a backward ass people the Afghans are.
I would definitely recommend this book. |

IMHO, this is the best book to have come out of the GWOT in Afghanistan. The amount of dedication shown by those troops in such a stressful environment is amazing. The only way any of the men in that platoon would leave their brothers was if someone carried them and they had no control over the issue. The platoon leader himself suffered severe headaches and double vision for much of the deployment from a TBI and even had cerebral fluid leaking from his ears. Yet he refused to report in to the aid station because he knew they'd take him away from his men if they found out. One of the men in the platoon shipped over out of shape and overweight because he stayed behind while his wife gave birth. Yet he devoted himself totally to losing weight and getting back into shape so he could join his brothers on patrol. He did so, only be killed on his first patrol. There are many other similar stories throughout the book. Even the guys with severe wounds and potential arterial bleeds seemed more focused on fighting and assisting other wounded than their own evacuation. This was a remarkable group of men from the lowliest private all the way up through the fire team, squad and platoon leaders. We owe it to these men to read of their experiences and sacrifices.

Love this book, but I'm frustrated with similarities our guys are facing with those our men faced in Vietnam.
It's also made my opinion of humanity in general, drop even lower. Our guys should not be suffering for those people. Bomb the shit out of the problems, and move on, come back and bomb more when needed. |

Great book. Just finished. Heart braking and thought provoking. I can appreciate the perspective on fobbits from the book, and this from a guy who if I had ever been delpoyed to a warzone, would have been a fobbit. The amount of action and psychological progressive through this deployment is incredible.
Now off to find a next book that will hold my attention as well. |

I thought the book was one of the best ones I have read all year. About two weeks later I read the Dakota Meyer book Into the Fire. He won the Medal of Honor. This was a good book also but was a Night and Day difference in command.

I read it and enjoyed it. It wasn't great literature, by any means, but somehow that made it seem even more sincere. I recommend it to anybody that has a cursory interest in the war.

I read it, it was very good
When I got to the part about the boy that was kidnapped and tortured by the Taliban, I became physically ill ( seriously it was that disturbing to me ) Another book in a similar genre I can recommend is "Lions of Kandahar" |
