THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT This book is written by Paul M. Barrett. He has written on Glock before and many of the more salacious details are known to ARFCOM, but not so easily found in one place. I enjoyed this book. The guy did his homework and was more fair than I would have expected. He did manage to convey some of the feel of the gun community in an effective manner. A soccer mom could read this book and learn some useful things about guns. The book would be interesting to the ARFCOMer in some aspects as what it reveals about the history and corporate culture of Glock. I wouldn't shell out full price for this book but if you can catch it at Costco or Sam's, you might be interested. |

Not all that big of a surprise, really, except the extent to which Gaston Glock treated people like shit, especially the main sales guy who drove the U.S. market strategy for the first several years. |

All but the last two chapters were very good. The author is most definitely a proponent of "common sense" gun regulations, which he manages to weave throughout the book. It was a quick and entertaining read, but the last two chapters are full on:
He also commits some arfcom cardinal sins, like using 'magazine' and 'clip' interchangeably a few times, and tries hard to support magazine capacity limits and closing the "gun show loophole."
As was said, check it out from the library. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile In a move of criminal brilliance, Gaston Glock's shady business partner, Charles Ewert hired a former French Foreign Legionnaire, named Jacques Pecheur (sp?) to kill Glock. Keep in mind that Glock was in his 70s and Pecheur in his late 60s, IIRC. I have sent the book on to another ARFCOMer so going by memory. Glock had become suspicious that Ewert was stealing money from him (he had gotten a tip) and traveled to Luxembourg to meet Ewert. Ewert picked Glock up at the airport himself. He told Glock that he wanted to show him a new car he had bought. So, he drove to a parking garage. Glock and Ewert go towards the car and Ewert remains behind somewhat (IIRC) and Pecheur comes out of a stairwell maybe and attacks Glock with a mallet (like those used to lay tile). Glock is quite vigorous and resists effectively. He is struck repeatedly by the mallet but lands his own blows so that Pecheur loses teeth and they both end up collapsed in a heap!!!!! So they beat the fuck out of each other. Ewert meanwhile ran away. Glock was taken to a hospital where his estimated blood loss was one liter. An adult of average size has about 5 liters, BTW.
Glock survived. Pecheur turned states evidence and was sentenced to prison. Ewert was also sent to prison. The 2 rocket surgeons were planning on beating Glock down with a mallet and then tossing him down the stairs and making it look like an accidental fall!! ![]() And if I remember right, Pecheur had a business card of Ewert's in his car. ![]()
As I read that Ewert and Pecheur had met at a gun range I was thinking..."what is their ARFCOM France screenames?" ![]() |

I finished this book several weeks ago. Very good book on Glock and the company. I didn't feel the author got on his soapbox about gun control and limiting magazine capacities. It was a pretty straight forward read on how Glock got his pistol into the American market and how and why it has become so popular. A pretty good view on how the firearms industry works and how the politicians use firearms for their political agendas as well as monetary gain. I was impressed with the book and highly recommend it. (I'm a Glock owner too, so I may be a little biased ;)
