My condolences to his friends and family.

John Mattis, more often referred to as eodtech2000 among our community, passed away February 11th, 2011.  He succumbed to the effects of cancer in his bone marrow.  He was a tough as nails man.  He fought his way through it for two years, enduring chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants along with numerous varieties of other medical treatments and procedures.  Most people here never knew we came close to losing him a couple of times over the past 6 months. Why?  Because the man never complained.

John served our country as an EOD technician.  He served honorably and with distinction.  He was an American patriot and often expressed his pride in this generation of combat troops.

John joined AR15.com back in January 2002.  He loved this community and shared much of his spare time with us.  I was fortunate to have known him.  I first met the man about seven years ago at one of the famous Hun Farm shoots where he travelled all the way from Georgia to join us.  Everyone was glad to have him.

John will be sorely missed.  He was one of our best.

God bless John Mattis and his loving family.  May he rest in peace.

God speed John...My condolences to his family.

I always enjoyed reading his posts, and he will be sorely missed.

One or twice he would talk frankly about his cancer, and it was clear to me, though he'd never type it, that he was in pain at times and the cancer he had was very serious.

For some reason, I think of Joshua Deets' epigraph in the novel Lonesome Dove.  It was a fitting tribute for a Soldier and American.

JOSH DEETS
SERVED WITH ME 30 YEARS. FOUGHT IN 21 ENGAGEMENTS WITH THE COMMANCHE AND KIOWA. CHERFUL IN ALL WEATHERS, NEVER SHERKED A TASK. SPLENDID BEHAVIOUR

I hope his family and friends know we will miss his companionship, his insight and hope that his memory will provide them comfort.

One thing I remember was how he would reference his own fight with cancer usually only to encourage others.

Pretty damn impressive.  He knew his odds weren't good and didn't let it get to him; rather he shared his strength and positive spirit.  That's an example to which we
should all adhere to in our turn.

It is like losing a brother.  We spoke often.  I met him IRL back in 05 at Wayne's farm (Hun Farm).

He loved beer.  Good beer.  Belgian beer.  Drink one in his memory.
