What if the really big boys were to decide you were too small to attend, would you bitch about that as well?Originally Posted By ALASKANFIRE: Originally Posted By AR15fan: Dealers big or small shouldnt be going to SHOT unless they have money to spend. Industry show means people in the industry right ETA I have no problem with window licking, just depends on who the licker is. |

An industry show isn't just a sales meeting it's a network and marketing opportunity.

The poster above you had no clue who you were and nobody can tell me they can pick out every major player at a SHOW with over 30,000 people attending. Tourist? Major Player? Nobody knows. |

Did you stick with the Military and LE products or wander around the hunting and non military manufacturers booths?Originally Posted By P08: Originally Posted By AR15fan: In your mind that is the way it should be. But I feel that you are being a little to rigid with your thoughts on who you feel is worthy to go. Remember that there are always bigger fish in the pond. |

My question to AR15fan is, were you prevented from doing business because the smaller fish got in your way? With 22 million to spend, something tells me no. |

All that really matters in the END ....is that John Q. Public spends MONEY at a dealer, and that dealer spends MONEY at a gun company.
The SHOT show is all about separating John Q Public from HIS MONEY. The middle men and gun companies dont want john q public to be at SHOT show, but they sure WANT HIS MONEY. Take SHOT out of vegas, and there will be less reason for john q public to go to shot if its being held in omaha nebraska. Having it at vegas gives the public more reason to want to go. All day guns, all night drinking and gambling ...thats a very hard combination to resist. |

Shot is also a reason to party for free. it is all a tax write off.

I got to finger bang guns that I had no idea my distributers had and see what was new and get an idea of how the industry is trending. I did not have a lot to burn at the show but I was able to get in on a few deals that will help out the shop and my customers. I also got to meet other people in the biz and get their help and insight. |

How do they determine how the product path is trending, hence which way they should expand their business? How do they make the right contacts to advance their business when they do get the money? How do they know the product they are thinking of purchasing for resale is good or bad without actually touching it? How do they market their own business if they don't go? How do they know who their competition is and what they are going to compete against? The list can go on.. WIthout going, you can only see stuff that was posted on the web, which doesn't compare to being there in person. When I went, I made a few good contacts. Got to see what was available, what I liked and what I wouldn't want to resell. Now if I was to take up the time of the sales reps and I wasn't serious.. well that's a whole another story. |

Yeah, look at other industry shows and you're absolutely right. It's as important to see the trends as anything else. |

Seems to me the journalists and internet news people should not be the ones going to shot show. Every year these people go to this show and promise tons of pictures. In fact they usually post videos the first day bragging about how much video they have. AR15 is the exception to this because they always post stuff and interview people no one else does (doesnt matter if they are site sponsors or not no one else interviewed lancer systems that has posted it so far.) There are a few other exceptions usually as well like SMGLee who isnt even really a news guy. The rest of them I think just hang out at the show and party. At the end of the day they look at whatever pictues the other people take and take the same ones. IF I see another picture of the keltec shotgun for the third year in a row.... This year so far I have seen several sites show only - kel tek shotguns, mystary ranch, sig, and the friggin single stack XD. I have seen no coverage of gemtech (I know they pissed some people off but they are probably still there), smith and wesson, Kriss, or DSarms. These are big companies that probably have some good stuff but nothing. I know vegas has plenty of free internet. Even if it isnt free in the room everyone has a phone now that has internet. This year the damn airsoft sites were second to post stuff from the show. I venture to say they put up more stuff than gunblast which gets worse every year.
Lets face it who wants to be at the show looking at stuff when everyone keeps taking pictures and interviewing the booth so you cant ask questions. This is also annoying when they all interview the same people and ask the same thing. I would like to eventually get a list together reviewing shot show reviewers. |

Unfortunately, the vendors do too and they Love it. It's all free advertising to them. |

It's called the NRA show - see you in St Louis. Well the NRA show doesn't attract all the venders that SHOT does. Been to several, and this years 2012 show in St. Lewis is missing several important vendors I wish to visit.
