I think Neil Giraldo doesn't get enough love. That guy is all over the place, and it's all tasty.

Tommy Tedesco or Glen Campbell. They could sit in with any band, and play any kind of music.
Lots of great guitar players out there.

Very good point about them being session players, and they can do just about anything, but most folks think of them as Country players. And speaking of session players, Brent Mason. |

Of the 3 listed, Hendrix by far. Slash doesnt even crack the top 100 on my list. Bumble foot, DJ Ashba and Buckethead all did a far better job in GNR than slash. Jimi,Rik Emmett, and Malmsteen are my top 3 in the generalized Rock genere. By the all time best player is Segovia. Jazz would be Pat Martino.

Of the three listed Jimi.
I would nominate Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan. Of course there have been many unbelievable players and choosing the best is impossible. |

I was a die-hard Vaughanabbe for a very long time. Riviera Paradise may be my favorite song ever.
However, IMHO, the best recorded strat tone of that type is found on Scott Henderson's "Tore Down House". Damn. If you like it cleaner, Ronnie Earl's "Still River" is amazing. I then drifted to Telecasters, and Kid Ramos is THE man for me on the old plank. |

For me it is SRV. I wouldn't say he is better than the other players. I just always related more to the way he played. If you watch him when he would really get going he would almost slap at the strings. The attitude and ferocity he had getting his sound is something I really get into.
Another example would be the late, great Steve Clark. Those type of gritty, reckless players have always been my favorite. |

I saw Jazz great Pat Metheney a few weeks ago in concert. It was incredible. Not sure if I was more impressed with his chops or how his band knew exactly what he was going to do next. Insane performance!

There are many truly great guitarists. I think their style is what separates them. It may be just what style you prefer.
