My son wanted to play bagpipes. We encouraged him to take up the drums instead.

I started playing them for my fire department Pipes and Drums. I used the College of Piping Tutor 1 to get the basics, and had the pipe major to coach me through some of the technical points. They're not that hard if you practice.
I bought a long McCallum practice chanter with Abedour easy reeds. I also bought McCallum pipes, and a Shepherd chanter to match the band. I use EzeeDrone reeds, and like the Abedour or Apps G3 chanter reeds. Down side for me is that they are so loud that I have a hard time finding the right time to play them. I keep on wanting to learn to play. Every time i mention it SWMBO encourages me to get some gun parts or something else I want
 .

I bought Naill pipes and the band uses a Naill band chanter with MG chanter reeds and EZEE Drone Reeds. I also have a side gig with an AC/DC tribute band playing one song LOL. I buy stuff from Pipers Hut and Henderson's too.

I like hearing pipes, but I have no desire to play them. Me and breath instruments don't get along.

Yes I have an electronic chanter. I use it a lot.
