but it has a kahler tremelo, with no guts in the nut, and no whammy bar.

It was a pawn shop $75 deal that I never found parts for.

If you were going to try to find these, where would you go?

I have nothing to add as far as parts go. The link posted above looked like the most promising one I could dig up.

That headstock does bring back some memories, though. My first electric was an '89 Charvel Dinky. It had that same style logo.

What's the rest of it look like?

That's a carpenters pencil.

I didn't have the whammy bar for it (just ordered one though), and didn't want to take the time to learn to balance it, so I landed the bridge tight on the pencil, and played it :)

Is that a Kahler or Jackson tremolo?

That's interesting.

I can't remember where I got the idea that it was a kahler, except that the nut looks to be a kahler.

The only thing I see on the bridge is "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents". I assumed this was because of the law suits.

Looks like a Jackson with the funky ergonomic saddle inserts.
Then again, it seems weird the color doesn't match anything else.
Nut is Kahler; I think that makes it an '86.

Thanks.

I ordered kahler stuff for the nut, and a kahler whammy bar. We'll see if it fits.

But that trem is a JT-6, and they didn't use those until '87.

ETA: I think it's an '87 or '88 Model 3

They only used that nut in '86; part of the weirdness, I suppose.
I don't recall the Jackson tremolos coming in chrome or being marked with just, "Lic under Floyd...". They were marked with the Jackson script.
Maybe an '86.5 model?
I had a Model 3 back in '89.

No, they kept using them past '86.

'87 Model 3:

'88 Model 3:

Both have the Kahler nut. I think '89 was probably the first year that they switched over to the Floyd nut. My first electric was a Charvel Dinky Reverse 3 (that was according to the guy at Jackson that looked up the serial number for me back when I had it in the '90s), and it had a JT-6 with a Floyd nut.

You do have a point about the chrome, but I'm gonna guess that somebody swapped the trem.

Shit. Now you got me wondering if I had an earlier model with the Kahler nut. It's kind of fuzzy after 25 years...
Huh; a Charvel/Schaller Floyd. That's a new one on me.
Those gray molded cases smelled really good for some reason.

On very close examination, there is a kind of smear on the rough area on the top section of the bridge, that looks like it may say Jackson on it. Very hard to make out.

Looks like there's a good chance the whammy bar I ordered, wont work.

Yep, Fly Mojo. A gift from my wife for our 25th anniversary. It's what got me playing again after probably 15 or 20 years. She's a great wife.

boy do I hate this nut.

Its so easy to back it out too far, and lose the metal piece.

It doesn't surprise me that the Kahler bar fits. The '89 I used to have had a bar unlike any other I've had since. They had some weird mixing and matching going on back then.

A bit hard to see in this pic, but the black Ibanez is a $65 craigslist find. Was missing a few trem and nut parts as well. I found what I needed on eBay.
